I recently stopped smoking. Well 3 weeks and 4 days to be exact. I am almost 40 yrs old and had smoked for 25 years, two packs a day. It was getting to where I had a constant cough and knew i was poisoning myself with every puff. I first tried the patches and used them for the first week. They helped but I still felt an awful need to do something with my hands. After week one i switched to the Nicotrol Inhalers.
The inhalers deliver 4 mg of nicotine each. The kit includes a little plastic cigarette that the inhalers fit into. You are supposed to puff on them or draw deeply into the back of the throat. They do have a bit of a harsh taste initially but it goes away quickly and they then taste somewhat mentholated. Almost like a menthol cigarette but not as strong. One inhaler lasts about 20 minutes. The only side effect I have experienced is a bit of a sore throat.
They were expensive, 48.99 for 42 of them. I found they satisfied the nicotine cravings i was having while giving me something to do with my hands. I started off using about 6 per day and gradually decreased it until this week I am completely smoke free. I still have cravings and still find myself fiddling with the little plastic cigarette when I am nervous but they really did the trick for me. I am so thrilled to be a non smoker that even though I still feel the urge to smoke I know that now that I am over the worst of it I will never smoke again.
I believe that they worked mostly because I was really really ready to quit smoking and that is the most important thing. Until someone has reached that point that quitting is more important than anything else it isn't going to matter what smoking cessation method they use it isn't going to last. However once you make up your mind and really want to quit in your heart these will make the quitting a little easier.
