Pros: Applies easily, dries quickly and is inexpensive.
Cons: Doesn't last long; needs to be reapplied frequently.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for the suntan look, give this product a try. It is simple to use and no more expensive than the other drugstore tanners.

| jo.com's Full Review: Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Lotion Medium |
My daughter spent the weekend with me a couple of days before I went to Florida. Since I don’t sit in the sun much anymore we thought it would be fun to “get a tan.” It wasn’t the first time I had tried sunless tanning products.
I have on a couple of other occasions including Estee Lauder and a product by Garden Botanika, which I didn’t like at all. Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray is actually very, very good. I was surprised!
I bought the Neutrogena spray in CVS on sale with my CVS card for $7.99 for a 3.5 fluid ounce plastic bottle. That was comparable to the other brands sold there. When you go into a department store for this type of product you will be paying around $25.00 for Estee Lauder for example. A couple of years ago I bought the Estee Lauder after trying others that left streaks and in retrospect the Neutrogena is as good and for a lot less money! I would never spend $25.00 again.
The Neutrogena spray, for the most part, does what it says it does so I’ll go through their claims and tell you what I think.
• It claims to be non-streaking and it is. This is really a change from the first tanless products and others on the market that really do leave you zebra looking. That isn’t to say every part of my leg, for example, was exactly the same color. But that isn’t a problem. When you think about it, when you tan in the sun, rarely do you get a totally even tan, so in that respect this looks very real.
• It claims to be fast drying and it is. Within 5 minutes I was perfectly dry and was not afraid to sit back down on my couch. You are warned not to get the product on the carpet, furniture or fabric but this is so easy to apply you shouldn’t have a problem with it.
• It claims to have a light, fresh fragrance and it does. It really smells nice unlike the Garden Botanika which is nasty smelling. The Neutrogena smells more like a suntan lotion or face cream than a medicinal product.
• It claims to give your body a healthy glow in a safe way, as an alternative to sun tanning. I bought the medium deep shade. The product says that it will last for several days and it will, but as your skin flakes off so will the color. Unlike the sun, which tans through layers of skin, this is just getting the top surface, so it can’t be expected to last for long. My recommendation and what I have been doing is applying it daily or every other day. I find the product to be cumulative. So after one “dose” you won’t be quite as pale as you were, but I wouldn’t say you look tan. After several applications, I would say that I had a light tan.
• It claims not to be orange and that is true. The first products of this kind did make you orange for those of you who don’t remember! This doesn’t at all.
• It claims that the color develops in 2-4 hours and that is true. I can’t say exactly if it is closer to 2 or 4; that depends on your skin, color, etc. but for me within 4 hours I certainly saw a subtle difference and with each application saw more.
• It claims to apply in a one touch continuous spray at any angle to help cover hard to reach areas and that is true. You don’t have to continue to push down on the spray. You just push is once and spray over your body lightly. You don’t have to soak yourself. It comes out lightly and then you blend it quickly with your hands until it is spread evenly.
Neutrogena Sunless Tanning Spray is oil-free, hypoallergenic and alcohol free. It does not claim to be cruelty free however, so I would assume that it is tested on animals, which Garden Botanika is not.
A few things to remember:
• Wash your hands with soap and water right after you use it or you will have a mess on your hands, literally!
• It does not contain sunscreen or protect against sunburn. This is not a sunblock and is not meant to be put on and then worn to help get tan or to prevent you from getting tan. It is meant to do just what it does. Give you a light tan without the sun or tanning booth.
• You should wait one hour before swimming or showering or it will wash right off.
• Do not spray it directly on your face and keep it far away from children.
The main ingredients in this product are for the most part chemicals and I will list as many as seem reasonable although I was close to needing a magnifying glass to read them! Water, witch hazel, ethoxydiglycol, dihydroxyacetone, dimethyl isosorbide, methylparaben, propylparaaben and fragrance.
The company gives you a hotline number to call if you want sun care information. That number is 1-800-299-4SUN or e-mail me if I can answer any other questions about this product.
