Pros: inexpensive, by good brand, prevents future acne, isn't TOO drying
Cons: smell is very unpleasant at first, bar form can be messy, ect.
The Bottom Line: Will prevent future breakouts if used regularly, but doesn't do a thing for already-there pimples.

| benefitlovr's Full Review: Neutrogena Facial Bar for Acne Prone Skin |
A few weeks ago, I was debating weather or not to buy Neutrogena Facial Bar for Acne Prone Skin. I had read many Epinions raving about it, but I had also read some peoples' gripes about the product. It was taco night in my family, and my mom asked me to run to the grocery store for taco sauce. I brought some extra cash in case Food Lion was having a sale on cosmetics, as they sometimes do. Well, they didn't have a sale, but they did have a display of Neutrogena Facial Bars that caught my eye. I figured, "What the heck, it's only $2.89", so I grabbed a bar for Acne Prone Skin and then ran to the sauce isle for some Old El Paso taco sauce (yum!). When I got to the register the 20-something clerk thought she was SO funny by saying "Uh-oh, don't mix those together!". Yea, lady, I'm going to put face soap in my tacos and spread taco sauce on my pimples. Sure, why not. Anyway, I got home, deposited the taco sauce into my mom's waiting hands, and rushed to the bathroom. I whipped out that soap, wet my face, and worked up a lather. The first thing that hit me was the smell. It smells kind of like a hospital, a really clinical, icky smell. I tried to ignore it as I gently massaged it gently all over my face. Besides the yucky smell, I really liked the tingly, clean feeling my skin had after I splashed off the lather. Yes, I splashed it off. I really can't use a face cloth when I use an acne wash, it's way too rough on my skin. But anyway, the product washed off very easily, leaving no residue behind. After my skin was dry, it was not only very clean, but very tight feeling. It was also slightly over-dried. I have to apply a light layer of oil-free moisturizer (I use plain old Curel body lotion, it's really light and oil free) right after I wash my face with this, otherwise my skin totally dries out and then my skin over-produces pore-clogging oil to compensate. Yep, that's right, the more you over-dry your skin, the more oil your skin will produce. Your skin needs a light layer of moisture to keep it healthy. Neutrogena says this product will not strip skin of its natural emmolients, as other facial products do, but this soap is slightly drying on my combination skin.
About This Product:
Neutrogena Facial Bar for Acne Prone Skin is an orange-tinted transparent bar that is about an inch wide, four inches long, and 2.5 inches tall. It comes in a plain cardboard Neutrogena box, which is white with black and orange lettering. I've already explained what it smells like, but let me just tell you that it really does become barely-noticeable after about three uses. This facial soap really didn't improve the condition of the pimples already on my face, but I noticed that no new ones sprouted up. In order to keep your skin clear you really have to use it regularly, in the morning before sunblock and makeup and at night to take everything off. Oh, did I mention that this product is great at taking off makeup? It is gentle enough to take off your eye makeup too as long as you rinse it off right after and don't get any suds in your eyes. To prove my theory of regularity, I went for two days just washing my face with water. Believe it or not, I had five new zits on my nose, forehead and chin.
Who Should Use It:
I really can only recommend this to people with normal, combination, or oil skin. Those of you with sensitive or dry skin need not waste three dollars, as this product may be too drying for some.
Where To Buy:
You can purchase this product at most supermarkets in the skin care isle as well as in pretty much every drugstore. If you can't find it near you, order it online at www.drugstore.com
Overall Rating:
I give this product four stars, because it works well but smells bad at first and you may need to follow up with moisturizer after use.
