I have all the luck!! Not only must I struggle with facial acne at the age of 28, but body breakouts as well. “Backne”, as it is referred to, is an additional problem that has plagued me for years. I am fascinated that my problems with acne (both face and body) are far worse now than when I was going through puberty. Go figure?!
I am also an avid exerciser and go to the gym regularly. As any fellow gym rat knows.....Getting all sweaty may make us feel great, in shape and energized, but it wreaks havoc on the skin, especially the delicate skin on your back and chest.
In my experience, showering with regular soap and water does not remedy the dreaded “backne, and I have found that some soaps actually aggravate and inflame existing blemishes.
There are dozens of acne products on the market today. Most of them are for facial acne, but there are a few out there specifically formulated for treating body breakouts. Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash is one of these products.
I discovered Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash at CVS one day about a year ago and decided to give it a try. I use other Neutrogena products and find them to be effective and affordable.
This product’s claim is that it is formulated to treat and prevent breakouts on the chest, back and shoulders. This was exactly what I was looking for. I purchased it and hoped it wouldn’t be sitting in my closet practically untouched a year later.
The active ingredient is Salicyclic acid (2%) which is what many products formulated for facial breakouts contain as well. I have found moderate success with those products so I figured this might just work. I was worried about the drying effects however. Other acne products that I have used on my face which contain Salicyclic acid have zapped the zit, but have left my skin drier than the Sahara. This product claimed that it would not overdry my skin (but then again don't they all?)Oh well, just had to give it a try.
I used Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash for about a week before I noticed any visible results. After a year of use, my breakouts are practically non-existent and there are no untouched bottles in my closet!.
The body wash lathers really well, leaves no residue on the skin, and doesn't clog pores. For best results, consumers are instructed to use daily. For maximum lather, one should massage over wet skin with a wash cloth or body puff, concentrating on acne prone areas. Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash rinses clean and leaves your skin feeling clean and tingly.
It has a mild medicinal smell, but it is not offensive at all. In terms of the drying effects, if you use it everyday like I do, your skin may get a bit dry. However, if you use a light moisturizer after your shower this will not be a problem. Neutrogena also has a Body Clear Body Scrub, which is the same formula and does the same thing, but this is a thicker product that is formulated with microbeads to smooth the skin. I have tried both and I prefer the body wash. The scrub is really thick and is difficult to squeeze out of the bottle.
