kjscrafts's Full Review: Margaret Truman - Murder at Union Station
This is a well-written mystery novel by Margaret Truman, daughter of former President Harry S. Truman. The main plot of the book revolves a murder of a former mafia man, Louis Russo, who has been in the witness protection program for years after testifying against other mafia men. He is murdered at Union Station when he returns to the United States in order to testify at Congressional hearings. He is also to be used to give publicity to a book written about the incident he is testifying about. This incident is not revealed specifically in the book until you are at least halfway into it. There are hints, however, such as it involves the current President. This secrecy of the hearings is somewhat frustrating as a reader, but it is done in a way that makes you want to keep reading to find out what the incident is that led to this Russo's murder. Intertwined with the main plot is the author of the book about the incident and his dilemma on what to do with the tapes of Russo telling the story of the incident. The second half of the book deals with the author trying to decide if he should hand them over to the hearings or the White House; or destroy them. His delay and him possibly being in danger leads to more suspense even though the person who murdered Russo is already revealed by this point. Thus with the main mystery solved there is still an interesting plot left that makes you want to continue reading.
Overall I really enjoyed reading this book. It not only has good suspense that keeps you wanting to read on, but it also gives a fictional look into the dirty side of politics. This dirty side of politics goes as far as to involve people working with the President, Congressmen, the FBI, and the CIA.
