| tommy_lop's Full Review: Mattel Masters of the Universe: Battle Sound Skele... |
So after getting my battle sound He-Man I went to look for his evil counter part Skeletor. After all you cant have a hero without a villain, besides who is the coolest character in he-man. Sure He-Man may be the hero, but whos got the stand out look, the cool lair, and the cool magic, its Skeletor. Sure he may be stuck with the most incompetent group of people on the planet next to the masters but then you have to have something holding you back.
Now when this first came out he was hard to find. Why you ask? After all the heros always out sell the villain, what made this one different. Its the video packaged with this figurine that made it popular. The problem with Power is considered the best episode of the original He-Man series.
First the action figure.
Battle sound Skeletor stands about has tall has is musler counter part. He dawns a bunch of spikes that covers his head and is shoulders. He also dawns red armor with a skull pattern. This form is seen in the episode of the new series called Sky Wars.
Has for his face he looks like what I would imagine a skeleton version of Lord Voldemort off of Harry Potter. He has a green face with an evil grin, and snake like fangs. His eye sockets also looks like those of a snake. Has for his eyes they are that of an evil red color.
Like the battle sound He-Man, Skeletor does feature a small hump in his back. However its not has big has He-Man, and Skeletor is far from looking like a close relative of Quazi Moto.
Articulation.
The only big thing I do have against these he-man actin figures is there articulation could be better. Still Skeletor has enough articulation to whoop butt on some overgrown barbarian if need be. His arms and legs move, has long does his waist. While they lack articulation this figure is fairly well put together.
Sound.
Like Battle Sound He-Man Skeletor only says one thing Eternia will be mine Ha ha ha ha, followed by a cutthroat slash. Is voice however sounds a lot better, sounding more like the evil voice found on the original version.
Special ability
Battle sound Skeletor has the same abilities has battle sound He-Man if you twist his waist hell snap back and make a slashing sound. Its supposed to make it look like hes punching or swinging a weapon.
Accessories
No evil villain is complete without some evil weaponry. Skeletor has his ram staff that is capable of blasting any master that gets in his way, or any minion that might bad mouth him. Next he has two swords, which can be clipped together to make one. However, this is the part where I go damn you Mattel for not throwing the few measles dollars into putting some joints in one of his hands. Its hard to get his to hold the combine sword in one hand. I gave up after several minutes and he now justs holds the orange part of the sword
Video.
The problem with power is considered by many to be the best episode in the orignial series, and since I hadnt seen it before is one of the reasons I decided to get the figure.
Story.
Skeletor plots to destroy He-Man but instead of going after him physically he has something more devious up his sleeve. Assisting the aid of a goblin who is literally heartless. He then captures a village to lour he-man there. To help him with his plan he purposely builds a shoddy dimension gate. When He-Man arrives there and after some rather corny dialog from Orko, and shots fired by Skeletor (at this point I dont blame Skeletor for shooting at Orko, after delivering the lines leading to that point I would be shooting at the trolan midget myself.) a fight starts. Skeletor leading to the shoddy part of the gate he goats he-man into punching the gate. Meanwhile the Goblin is standing near the gate disguised has a villager and the gate collapses around him. Since the Goblin has no heart he has no pulse and He-Man assumes hes dead. Thinking that he has killed an innocent person He-Man transforms back into Prince Adam and throws his sword of power down the bottomless abyss. Without He-Man Skeletor now has free reign on Eternia, and when Tella goes off on a suicide mission will Adam be able to figure out Skeletors trick and get his sword of power back before its to late.
The episode is a lot better then Diamond ray of disappearance, there are a lot less stale dialog, and a little bit better animation is used. While there are still a few cheesy lines (like I said Orkos lines at the beginning of the episode.) most of the dialog is pretty good. The only really negative part about this episode is the moral, after every he-man episode of the original series there was a moral, some where good, some where pathetic (I read thorough all of them and one of them was ram-man telling kids not to hit things where there heads), and some just dont fit. This one isnt pathetic but it doesnt fit. The moral is about safety and while safety is an issue at a part, the main point of the story is he-man misused is powers has the most powerful man in the universe and somebody almost died. Anyways the moral is delivered by Man at arms the one eternian voted the most likely to get blown up 20 times in a row. The part I find fun to make fun of his is fire message remember kids playing with matches can burn your toys, your house, your family. Now if you think Im not going to poke fun of the fact that he said toy first then you dont know me very well.
Man at Arms: remember playing with matches could burn your toys. (thinking to him self wait if there toys burn they have to buy new ones, that means more profit for Mattel). Hey kids heres another great idea, you want to see something cool, cover your masters of the universe toys with gasoline and light a match. Not only to you see what happens when He-man comes close to a flame but you get to bug your family for more Masters of the universe toys.
Final recommendations.
Battle sound Skeletor actually comes off better then is heroic counter part. With a cooler look, a bit better poster, and a lot better episode battle sound Skeletor is a definite pick up for a masters of the universe fan.
