I needed Valium the past two years to sleep (prescribed 10 mg) and recently was told I could slowly stop. A month later, when I finally reduced the dosage to none, I developed nervous tics. I asked my doctor if he had any advice and he said that my magnesium was out of balance and to take two teaspoons of citrate of magnesium (or magnesium citrate) every hour for 1-1/2 to 2 days. I purchased the liquid (even though it said laxative) and was astonished. Two days later I wasn't squeezing my eyes together hard or "sniffing". It was that simple. Nature is amazing! By the way, the "laxative" effect was not there because my dose was so low.
I bought lemon flavored. It is very strong, but no aftertaste. Once a bottle is opened, it must be consumed or thrown away within 48 hours. It was difficult to find in the drug store I went to and I found out Magnesium Citrate is natural and available over-the-counter, in the laxatives section. Hopefully you do not have the uncomfortable nervous tics or twitches, but if so, I definately think it would be worth a try.

P.S. My doctor also prescribed Benadryl at night, which apparently is what drug rehabilitation centers use to help Valium addicts sleep.
