Liquid Paper is the foremost name in the production of white- out for correcting mistakes on paper. It was once an independent operation but is now a part of Papermate- the same company known for its manufacturing of writing devices. Liquid Paper makes many different products but the most common among them is the basic white- out products. One of these is Liquid Paper Water Base Correction Fluid, a water- based product for correcting mistakes on regular white paper.
Basic Facts about This Product:
Most individuals and businesses purchase this product in a multi- pack of bottles. Each bottle is small, measuring only 2 and three- quarters inches (7 cm) in height and 1 and one- quarter inches (4.5 cm) in width. There isnt much fluid in the bottle- only 18 ml (about .6 oz) to be precise. It is manufactured with a water base that contains no toxic fluids making it safe for kids.
The applicator for this type pf liquid paper is a small brush with long, fine bristles and it looks just like what you would find in a bottle of fingernail polish. The tip of this brush isnt very large, and the bristles measure only about one- half cm (5/16 of an inch) in length.
Directions for Use:
In order to get the chemicals mixed properly, Liquid Paper recommends shaking the bottle before you begin to apply. After shaking, you simply unscrew the cap, which has the applicator attached. There should already be some white- out fluid on the tip. If there isnt enough, you simply dip it back into the bottle.
The label on the bottle doesnt say exactly how to apply, but you should correct your mistake using as little fluid as possible. Using the tip of the brush, you should dot the mistake so that the mark is covered without allowing the fluid to get too heavy. You should avoid brushing- like you do with a paintbrush- because this will cause the liquid to spread too thin and that could mean needing a second coat to cover the mistake.
Once the application is complete, you need to allow the fluid to dry. Once it is dry, you can write on top of it and treat it like an ordinary paper surface.

Final thoughts:
Liquid Paper white- out is one of the original products manufactured for the task of hiding mistakes. This product has been slowly improved over the years. With the water- base and the elimination of toxic solvents, this product is safer and less offensive smelling than it was in the past. It is safe for kids and easily washes out of clothing.
One thing that I wish was different about this product is the applicator. Other Liquid Paper products have switched to a foam applicator that is easier to use and less messy. With the brush, there is a smaller surface to collect the liquid and transfer it to paper, and that means a more time- consuming process. There is also a greater chance of splattering with this brush so you need to be careful when you apply it.
Drying time is one of the most important factors to consider when using a specific type of white- out. In this area, Liquid Paper Water Base Correction Fluid passes the test with a grade of B. It takes only about 60 to 90 seconds to dry (assuming the user doesnt dry to speed the drying process) which is fast enough that you can get your mistake corrected and continue going about your busy day. Any wait longer than about two minutes can get frustrating.
One other thing that you need to watch with this correction fluid is the tendency to apply it too heavily. This is an easy mistake to make and it will result in longer drying time and in bumps of fluid on the surface of your paper. If this happens and you write on top of the bump, there is a good chance it will not yet be dry underneath and the fluid will smear. Another area where you need to take caution is using this product on photocopies. The chemicals used are not formulated for copies and using this fluid on a photocopy will most certainly result in smearing the toner all over the paper. This will add greatly to your frustration level because you will need to switch over to a different type of fluid (one made for copies) and apply even more fluid than before to clean up the mess.
Overall, though, Liquid Paper Water Base Correction Fluid is still a good product for correcting errors on regular paper. It could be improved with a different applicator, but it is still a good product for this type of task. It covers mistakes and dries in a relatively short time, keeping your frustration level to a minimum.
