A quick background on the Star Wars Lego Mini sets: (If you need quick backgrounds on Star Wars, or Legos, or both, you'd probably just want to do some Google searching)
Star Wars Mini sets are very small, inexpensive sets that are models of some popular vehicles from the Star Wars Universe. There are currently 4 sets out, Xwing/Tie, Slave I/Jedi Starfighter, Anakin/Sebulba's Podracer, and Snowspeeder/ATST (Chicken Walker). If you purchase all 4 sets (currently priced at about $4 a set) you get extra pieces enough to build a bonus Tie Bomber. 4 more sets are due for release.
Well, as promised in my last review of Slave I/Jedi Starfighter, I went out and got the last two sets I need to complete the 4, and the Tie Bomber. I knew the Snowspeeder and AT-ST (Chicken walker) set would be my favorite, and I wanted to save the best for last, but I couldn't help myself.
And I was not disappointed. Of the four first series Lego Star Wars Mini sets, this one is my favorite, and that's saying a lot, being as they are all great. The two models take about 5 minutes to slap together, and are probably the most "playable" of the ones I have opened so far.
The Snowspeeder is small, with few pieces, so it is perfect for playing with for small kids. It stays together even when dropped. The "wings" are movable, because they are at an angle, though really, you should just leave them at their proper angle. The two cannons look great, and an exhaust port on the back looks great as well.
The AT-ST Is a little more fragile, and it takes a couple clicks to get the legs just so so it stands up, but it is the most impressive model detail-wise of any that I had opened up to this point. The legs DO move, but not in normal chicken walker fashion, but it forgivable. Attached to the "head", you have the side mounted cannons, the front guns, a movable cockpit flap and of course the head rotates. Extremely impressive in every respect.
These Star Wars mini sets are great, and this one is my favorite of the 4. (Even without opening the Podracers, I know this, because I don't really like podracers - though I'll be opening that one in about 4 minutes. :) )
These are absolutely perfect for the adult "kid" on your gift list, or for you if you are are a Star Wars OR lego nut without a lot of space or money - Great for the workplace or cubicle.
Stay tuned for the final piece in the series, as well as a review of the BONUS TIE-BOMBER! (Drooling).
