| aymz_2001's Full Review: Kane y Abel Books |
Two children, born on the same day at the same time, destined since birth to interlock in their lives for the battle of survival. William Richard Kane, son of a millionaire banker who is destined to take over the family business. He meets some tragedies in his life, the death of his father, his mothers marriage to Henry Osborne, which later killed her, the death of his best friend, his grandmothers... He lived up to his expectations and battled to the limit to distinguish himself to others, to be noticed in the world.
Abel Rosnovski, born as Wladek in a forest close to Warsaw, was found by a hunter in the forest, attached to his dead mother. He was taken to the trappers cottage and prospored amongst 2 sisters who adored him, 3 brothers who thought nothing of him, a foster mother who dearly loved him and a foster father who despised him. Later he is sent to the Baron's castle to be competition for his son, leon. Upon the arrival of the war his life is turned to misery, he has lost all those whom he held dear and saw no hope for life in camp 201. Only he was to escape and find his way to the promised land, the land of opportunity, his journey there was not simple, however he quickly rose in the ranks from being a waiter to a tycoon, owner of the world famous Baron hotel.
How the writer brought these two to actually influence each others lives in superb. This story is nothing if not a never ending tale of twists, the two main characters' lives cross paths so many times it is simply astonishing. the fact that Jeffrey Archer was able to tell the story from Abel's point of view, then switch over to William's point of view is incredible. i think it would take an extremely gifted director to make this epic come to life on the silver screen. Each character leads his own life, but is somehow influenced by the other.
In my opinion the genre for this book is undefined, it has a bit of everything, suspense, romance, drama, thriller, all of these words strongly influence the book into being the million copy best seller.
the writer displays such accuracy in each persons life, how they make their fortune etc. Its absolutely astonishing, the depth of knowledge that he possesses towards financial criteria. The bankers stories are so accurate and the hotel CEO's are as well.
the story orbits around the ideas of survival, vengeance and love. Each main character believes the other has somehow offended him and must act as he sees fit to get their own back. the story does not have a plot, it is a mixture of everything. the name of the book is very implying towards its content, each man murders the other various times, not physically, but mentally and emotionally.
