| daylward's Full Review: K2 Axis X Pro Downhill Skis |
My Axis X Pro skis are far and away the best all-mountain skis I've ever had the pleasure of riding. These skis are at their best on the steep, in the deep, hucking the cornice, in the trees, in the bumps, on the ice, on the corduroy, getting maximum vertical. At 174 cm, they're also the shortest I've skied on since I was a kid. Even at that short length, however, they're incredibly stable at high speed and in the crud and have a lot of float in powder (not as much as fattys of course, but fat skis have disadvantages in other terrain). They carve like a turbo turkey knife; I have my bindings jacked up pretty tall, and I can lay it over as far as I want at any speed I want and they come right around in one continuous, smooth slice. Much more responsive than the regular Axis due to the metal sheet; try the two back-to-back if you can and feel what a difference it makes! They take me where I want to go, they take whatever I can throw at them, with glee! I love them!
Unfortunately, next years version, the Axis XP, is wider all the way down. Those I've talked to who've skied them haven't liked them as much. Not as good at high speed on the packed. Why do they have to go and change something that's so perfect?
