| bmcnichol's Full Review: Jax Sequence Dice |
My family loves the game Sequence so when I came across Sequence Dice on sale at amazon.com, I decided to add it to my shopping cart.
A few days passed, our new game arrived and we broke it out. Out of the box the game comes with a game board, two dice, and sixty marker chips (twenty each of the color green, red and blue)
Unfold the game board (its folded in four pieces) and place on a flat surface. The game board has numbered squares from two through twelve on them, with no ten or eleven spaces. Each number has four corresponding spaces.
To begin play, each player or team chooses a colored set of chips. The first player rolls the dice. You must place a chip on the number that equals the total of the two dice. So if the total of the dice is three, you place a chip on one of the four number three spaces. If all four spaces are occupied by a chip, you must remove a chip and place yours in its place.
If you roll a ten, you will remove any chip from any space on the board except a two or twelve space. If you roll an eleven, you may place a chip on any space. If you roll a two or a twelve, you place your chip on that number on the board and you take another turn.
The winner of the game is the first person to make a sequence of five of their chips in a straight line. Easy enough.
Sequence Dice is made by Jax and is recommended for children seven and older. The game is recommended for two to four players.
One thing I do disagree with is the recommended age. My youngest loves playing and he was four at the time we started playing. Actually this is one of his favorite games. The rest of the family enjoys playing with him but I do think this game is geared more for a younger crowd.
This game is easy to learn and fun to play. It is also education for the younger crowd in that it helps with adding, number recognition and taking turns. Now if we can find a game that helps them with losing, we would have a perfect game.
As with any game with small pieces, you need to be careful if you have smaller children as they could swallow the chips and/or dice. We also keep the chips/dice in a Ziploc bag so not to lose any. I do also think they could have made the game board a bit sturdier. You must fold it in fours and with use, our board looks like it is about to fall apart. I am waiting for the day that someone unfolds it and it rips at the folds.
But for $4.99 we more then got our moneys worth out of this game. When it is my youngests turn to pick a game, this is one that he picks quite frequently.
All in all, I think Sequence Dice is a fun game especially if you have younger children. This is a game that the whole family will enjoy playing together. Yes I do think there are better games on the market, but for a quick fun game, I would recommend Sequence Dice.
