Pros: Great dialogue, silly but real acting, nice atmosphere
Cons: A wee bit complicated in the middle
The Bottom Line: This Hitch doesn't stick his thumb out at passing drivers or direct classic horror movies. It turns out he's just an everyday guy.

| flamepillar's Full Review: Hitch |
Seems everyone, at some point or another, could use a love doctor. Unintentionally insult your lover? Can't seem to attract the attention of that smokin' sweetheart down the hall? Or maybe you're just stupid?
Well, say goodbye to the old rocky horror love and allow me to introduce you to Hitch. Hitch is what we call a "love doctor" who specializes in the intervention of love matters gone awry. He always knows the solution, the right thing to do or say, and if you need a pen... well, you've seen that part.
The question is -- what happens when Hitch himself falls in love? Will he be able to always know the solution, or the right thing to say?
Will Smith has played a fair share of action superheroes -- Steven from ID4 and Spooner in I, Robot come to mind. But seeing him in this role, there's just no frikkin' way this guy used to rap, man. Wow. What I wouldn't give to be half as smooth as the clown. But I kid... I don't think anyone would want to be in his shoes when they (yes, they, the shoes) inadvertently come into contact with a woman's face.
Hitch is a different kind of romantic comedy -- you might even call it a "romantic satire". Hitch the guy is advising on it, while Hitch the movie almost makes fun of it. Elsewhere, you got a whole lot of basic truths being slung about, but they are things we easily forget. And perhaps we could stand to hear them if we hope to survive the imminent VD.
The story here is based mostly around Albert (Kevin James) a tax advisor who happens to have feelings for one of his clients, Allegra (Amber Valletta). Albert enlists the help of Alex Hitchens (also known as 'Hitch') and things start off looking just fine and dandy.
That is, until Sara (Eva Mendes) steps into the picture. She is a gossip columnist whose camera guy caught Albert and Allegra (who just so happens to be a celebrity) gettin' jiggy with it at a party. And there is just NO way a guy who looks like THAT could have gotten so lucky! Then, to top things off, Sara is opening up for the first time... to the very guy who 'made it happen' for Albert.
Sometimes the story does seem a bit disjointed, like there's too much going on at once and you have no idea what to watch for. But hey, some people love a good rollercoaster, and it's not as if Love itself hasn't taken us on a few of those. The dialogue is fantastic, and the last 5-10 minutes are a real nail-biter. Sometimes it's hard to say what you feel, and I'm not saying the characters here make it look easy, but they tell it like it is. No shortage of Quotable Quotes here.
I'm thinking some people will hope that by seeing this movie, they will be endowed with the advice they need to woo someone this Valentine's Day. You know, it's the same kind of people that get all pumped up when the Genie on Aladdin says "Tell her the TRUTH!!!"
Well, the truth here is that you'll eventually get so caught up in all the infatuation complications that you won't have the first clue what you even want to hear. But if you want my advice, try this. Life is short. Seize the moment. No wait, that's Buffy. Okay well how about this: If you're gonna lose the girl anyway, don't let it be by your choice.
The only thing that really disappointed me was that a segment of the trailer never made it to the movie. It's the one where the guy asks his girlfriend if she wants a diet soda, and she ditches him, then Will Smith comes in to tell him that he implied she was fat. Then he said something like "Get her a Coke Classic and tell her she's everything you never knew that you always wanted." Or some such line, I'm sure it was longer than that.
You've been hurt by love, I've been hurt by love, but all we really want is to be miserable, right? Oh, forget it, just go see this movie and maybe it'll shut those voices in your head up, finally knowing that someone else thinks the same thing.
