As we travel into the new millenium consumers are looking more and more for products that offer both high quality and reasonable cost. Consumers have become smarter and have forced companies to use only the highest quality materials. Companies that have not followed this trend have seen sales of their products drop and in some cases the products have disappeared from store shelves.
Godet Belgian White Chocolate represents the perfect marriage of two true world class products, Belgian chocolate and Godet cognac. Both of these commodities have long individual histories and are considered among the cream of the gourmet crop.
Chocolate, the drink of the god.
Christopher Columbus discovered the Aztecs drinking chocolate beverages around end of the15th century. The Aztecs are credited with being the first to drank chocolate. Their beverage was a produced from roasted cocoa seeds blended with spices. This early drink was sacred to the Aztecs and could only be afforded by the rich. That early concoction tasted nothing like modern chocolate and was not popular with the early European visitors. They did however take the recipe back to Europe with them and set the foundation for Europe's modern chocolate industry.
Godet cognac.
In 1550, Bonaventure GODET, a Dutch merchant, set up in La Rochelle area to export not only salt but also the Cognac and Ritsel (La Rochelle) wines. At that time, Holland was the first importer of distilled wines. Dutch people invented this kind of product, which was to lead to brandy first and then to cognac. Anyhow the Cognac history was on its way and so was the GODET family.
Since the 70's crisis, the 8th generation of GODET has followed the ancestral guideline of the family that is the opening on the world while maintaining tradition and modernity together.

The nutritional and energy qualities of the chocolate were very appreciated by the Spanish during the early New World colonization. Today, it is used by the sport competitors as chocolate is an excellent energy booster thanks to its constitutes (iron, magnesium...)

Since the time of Aztecs & Mayas who have initiated cocoa consumption, the chocolate has always been considered as a sexual stimulant. Even the Aztec emperor Moctezuma drank it to " have women access ".
The theologian Fransiscus Rauch wrote in 1624 " that beverage drank in convents inflame passions ".

In the 16th century, the Spanish aristocratic ladies consumed chocolate everywhere even in church. Did it help them supporting the too long Masses? Today, we know that chocolate contains " pheryletylanine " which would have a positive action in case of nervous depression.

Godet Belgian is a true chocolate lover's dream. Godet is a white color with a rich, creamy body. The aroma's feature the Belgian chocolate highlighted by the aged Godet cognac. While Godet's alcohol is provided by cognac, this is definitely a chocolate-drink. Those of you that do not care for cognac have no fear, the alcohol content is mild at 15% by volume and Godet bears no resemblance to drinking straight cognac.
Godet is a very versatile spirit that can be enjoyed straight or over the rocks. Godet also can be used to top ice cream or can be added to your after dinner coffee. One of my favorite desserts is to pour Godet over pound cake and top with a small drizzle of dark chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
Godet is not inexpensive but with this product you get the quality you pay for. If you love chocolate give Godet a try, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
