| marybatson's Full Review: Gerber Diaper Rash Lotion |
When it comes to diaper rashes, Im what you call a reactive butt warden. I apply ointments as a remedy for diaper rash, not as prevention. Luckily, my son does not have sensitive skin, so I rarely have to nurse the condition. In researching this product, I was surprised to discover that many parents apply creams and lotions as a pre-emptive measure for diaper rash. Call me frugal, or just stupid, but it never occurred to me to lather my sons bum with ointment to prevent a rash. My son uses disposable diapers, so perhaps cloth diaper wearers are more prone to that kind of thing. Anyway, several large tubes of the A+D Original Ointment were given to me as baby gifts, so I have yet to purchase any creams to treat diaper rash. In fact, the tube of Gerber Diaper Rash Lotion was given to me 2½ years ago at my baby shower. I tried it once when Will was an infant, but preferred the results of the A+D Original Ointment. Subsequently, I placed the Gerber lotion in a drawer to use as an alternate for when I depleted the chosen brand.
My Feelings
This past week William suffered from a nasty bout of diarrhea, which often causes diaper rash. I used up the last of the A+D Original Ointment, thus decided to try the Gerber Diaper Rash Lotion again. Now, I remember why I preferred the other brand. The Gerber Diaper Rash Lotion does not work as well. It took me 3-days to get a mild rash under control using the Gerber brand. Rashes are typically cleared-up the next day when using the A+D Original Ointment. Although, the Gerber Diaper Rash Lotion is easier to apply. You squeeze it like a tube of lotion, and because of its consistency, it glides better than thick ointments, or creams. It is odorless, which is pleasant, and its white. However, the color fades quickly, so you dont have to worry about staining garments. The A+D Original Ointment cost a dollar more for the same size tube, but it lasts a lot longer. Less ointment is required to treat a rash, so theres more bang for your buck.
Description
Gerber claims their Diaper Rash Lotion treats, and prevents diaper rash. The lotion is available in a 4-ounce, plastic tube, and according to the back of the tube, its purpose is to protect the skin. Gerber recommends you, apply the lotion liberally, as often as necessary. They also suggest you use the lotion with each diaper change, especially at bedtime when the exposure to wetness is prolonged. For external use only, and one should avoid contact with the eyes. Do not apply over deep or puncture wounds, infections, or lacerations. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children.
Active Ingredient:
Dimethicone 1%
Inactive Ingredient:
Aluminum/Magnesium hydroxide stearate, cetyl dimethicone copolyol, cyclomethicone, hexyl laurate, imidurea, polyclycerl-4-isostearate, purified water, sodium chloride
Closing Remarks:
The Gerber Diaper Rash Lotion does work, it just does not work as well as other brands do. It has no offensive odor, and is easy to apply, although given the fact that the Gerber brand requires twice the product, and a lot more time to cure a mild rash, leads me to follow suite with my friends, and purchase a better diaper rash cure. I would recommend the Gerber Diaper Rash Lotion to a friend, but I would also suggest they try A+D Original Ointment and let them make up their own mind.
