Pros: Excellent massage... feels "natural"
Cons: The massage will be rated as TOO deep for some. Not easily portable.
The Bottom Line: Pricey, but provides an excellent, natural-feeling massage. But the machine is big and heavy making it difficult to move around.

| ladyconsumer's Full Review: FootSmart Human Touch Ottoman 2.0ft and Calf Massa... |
I fell in love with this product right in the store! I was walking by the Brookstone store in my local mall, and you know how sometimes you just want to go in there & try all their fun products… Well this weird-looking ottoman was there and I just had to see what it was all about! A salesman came over and explained to me that it’s meant to be a calf massager – although it’s also a foot massager. Well after walking around the mall for hours, I was ready for a calf massage so I told the salesman to “hook me up”.
First let me describe this product for those of you who haven’t seen it. When it’s flipped so that the massager is facing down, this product looks like a plain old ordinary foot rest. It has a nice soft material, and is available in several colors. The one I bought is charcoal gray.
But, there’s a large button on the side that lifts up to release the center portion of the footrest. Once released, it can flip completely over. Once flipped, you can lock it in place by pressing that side button back down again. Now the flat part of the footrest is facing down, and two openings are facing up. You can put your calves inside the openings, or take your shoes off and put your feet into them. The massager adjusts to different height levels, and multiple angles so you’re assured complete comfort.
Then turn on the main power switch (at the front of the unit), grab the remote control (which conveniently attaches to the side of the footrest via magnet) and get started enjoying the most amazing massage you’ve ever felt from a machine. The “human touch technology” delivers a massage that you’d swear was the result of a professional! This is a DEEP massage. In fact, some people will feel that it’s too much pressure. Especially people with wide calves. Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust the amount of pressure that is applied. So be sure to try this in the store, before you buy!
There are 3 programs to choose from – a slow massage, a faster massage, and a setting that provides a mixture of the two speeds. I always use the third setting - it feels more "natural" to me to mix up the speeds. The machine shuts off automatically after 20 minutes.
This machine sells for $249 at Brookstone. I bought mine for $199 at footsmart.com. Although a bit pricey, I recommend the product for anyone whose feet and calves get tired and achey, and who enjoys the feel of "real" massage.
2009 Update: When I bought this machine, it was simply a luxury item, something that can massage my feet, because it just feels good. But a couple years ago I developed plantar fasciitis, a fairly common foot problem that can cause severe pain. And one of the things that really helps, is a deep foot massage. As a result, I found myself wanting to use this machine more and more. But I also found myself regretting its size and weight, because it's not easily portable. Unwilling to constantly lug it from room to room, I wasn't using it as often as I should have been.
Thus I bought a much smaller, lighter weight machine: i-Need Shiatsu Foot Massager
If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, here's a product that might also help you: Thermoskin Heel Splint
Finally, if you just enjoy massages, you might also be interested in the HoMedics Shiatsu Pillow
