jessicamc4's Full Review: Paul Mitchell Foaming Pommade 5.1 oz
I was pushed into purchasing Paul Mitchell Foaming Pommade about a year ago. I was seeing a new stylist after my regular stylist had cut back on her hours. I really liked the new stylist and she did a great job on my hair. I usually don't fall for pushy sales people and I don't know how she did it, but she convinced me to buy this. I'm glad she did.
About the product
The back of the bottle states "For all hair types. Shine and control. Creates smooth finished looks on all textures of hair. Highly concentrated. Contains the activated shine blend of chamomile, henna, rosemary, aloe vera, and jojoba.
Packaging
Like all Paul Mitchell products, this bottle is very simple. I think it comes in three different sizes. I have the 8.5 oz which is probably why it cost me so much. The bottle is tall and round with a black twist off cap and black writing. A tiny hole allows you to get the right amount of pomade without wasting it.
Directions for use
The other pomades I have tried before are in tubs and you just scoop some out with your fingers and apply. Paul Mitchell Foaming Pommade is very different. The directions tell you to shake well before use. Put a small amount into palm of hands. Rub hands together briefly. Wait 5 seconds for product to foam and rub hands together again. Smooth over finished style.
My Experience
When I poured the white pomade into my hands for the first time, I wondered how in the world this stuff could work. It is very thin, almost liquid. Not thick or "waxy" like most pomades. After rubbing my hands together, the pomade magically become thick enough to be used on my hair.
Instead of putting the pomade in the palm of my hand, I apply it to the tips of my fingers and rube them together. I found this works better for me and lets me control where the product goes.
Once I was all done styling my hair it looked very shiny and smooth. Now my hairstyle looks incomplete until I use the pomade. I use it several different ways:
-Flip the ends out and put it on the ends of my hair for a chunky look
-Smooth over my hair after flat-ironing for an even more sleek look
-Apply it very lightly to flyaways makes them stay down
You can use this many other ways to. You will find what styles works best for you and how this pomade can help.
The scent is very nice but a little strong. It is a distinct herbal scent.
I didn't have any problems with this pomade weighing my hair down, but I have very thick hair. This product may be too heavy for those with normal to fine hair.
Two things I dislike about this product:
1)The price. The 5 oz. was about $13 and the 8.5 oz. cost me almost $20. Geez! A little goes a long way and I am now stuck with more pomade than I will use in my lifetime. (I didn't realize at the time of purchase that there were smaller sizes for the stylist led me to believe the 8.5 was the only size available)
2)If you don't wipe off the area around the opening often, then the pomade will build up and you will have a waxy, goopey mess.
