When asked what she wants to do, my three year old often answers, "Let's go to a hotel and go swimming." We were doing some extensive work around the house this summer that often required us moving to a local hotel for a couple of nights. We usually tried to stay in hotel with a swimming pool to have something to entertain our girls. It is no wonder that the Sweet Streets Swimming Pool is my daughter's favorite Sweet Street play set.
The Basics
Sweet Streets Swimming Pool is a plastic hinged play set with appropriate accessories. When closed it measures 5" X 8" and 4" X 9 1/2" when open and it is 8 1/2" high. The purple half is the swimming pool and the blue half is a snack shop. A molded ladder on the side of the snack shop leads up to a deck above the store. A handle on the edge of this deck allows for easy carrying. The two halves snap together and are easy for a preschooler to open and close.
The sweet shop comes with a counter for serving snacks. The hinged door opens and there is a small window to serve as a take out counter. There are several stickers inside to enhance the snack shop motif.
The swimming pool is small and shallow but there is enough room for the boy and teenage girl that come with the set. There is a lifeguard seat perched above the pool, a small immobile diving board and a serpent shaped life preserver attached with a short string. The back of the swimming pool side has details molded to resemble a locker room.
Additionally this set comes with a lounge chair, a single seat picnic table slide and a fabric towel. There are also three figures, a teenage lifeguard, a young boy and a mother. All of the figures are dressed for a day by the pool. Their heads turn and their shoulders and hips articulate.
What We Like
It's a swimming pool! The snack shop is largely ignored but my daughter loves the swimming pool. The figures jump off the diving board, slide down the slide and "float" in the in the tube. Then they take a shower and go swimming all over again.
The small plastic set is durable and easy to store. Although you need to take some care with the stickers the set is easy to wash off. There are only a few pieces to keep track of which is a big plus. This play set runs on imagination (not batteries) making the toy only as loud as my 3 year old!
My daughter likes that there is a ladder leading to the upper deck. She gets irritated with play sets that have two floors but require the people to jump up to the second floor.
What We Don't Like
The small size appeals not only to my 3 year old, but to my 17 month old as well. Unfortunately my 17 month old prefers to try and eat the pieces rather than play with them. My oldest can only play with this and other Sweet Street sets when her little sister is sleeping.
Final Thoughts
My daughter liked this set the moment she received it. It has been getting even more play in the last few weeks since she started swimming lessons. This is a great addition to any Sweet Streets collection, or even as a first set. This is a great value play set at a suggest retail price of $10.
