| bonniesayers's Full Review: Fisher-Price Soft Flex Balls |
When I initially purchased the Intex Jump-O-Lene, I ordered a box of 100 Ball Pit Balls through amazon.com and this is what we have been using.
During the last month I have picked up three boxes of the Fisher-Price Soft Flex Balls at Toys R Us for $19.99. There are one hundred balls inside the box in the vibrant colors of purple, red, yellow and orange. You will not receive green or blue in these boxes, but we have a number of them that are from a playhut system. The arrangement of colors is inviting the kids into the ball pit area.
On all the other balls we have the name of the brand or company logo is noticeable. For the Fisher-Price Soft Flex Balls it is less obvious and more in the background of the ball and not the focus. On one side is a small notation that they are made in China and the other side shows ©2001 Mattel, Inc. and M.T.T.L. on the next line. The balls fit easily into the palm of a hand and can be tossed either over or underhand, using only one hand.
My youngest son likes to catch them when his brother tosses them out and then line them up in the living room to the door. They do not roll and stay in a nice row until we all retrieve them to go back inside the ballpit. They are not sticky and have an easy grip to them. You can press down with your thumb and see the ball bounce back to shape. The other balls have resulted in breaking and popping from getting damaged due to the rough treatment inside the pit area.
My older son likes to pretend to be an animal when in there and move around the balls and just lull about when he is pouting over homework or taking a break. It is a nice place for him to feel the softness of the balls around his body and helps him relax, used as a form of self-stimulation for those with sensory issues. So far these balls have retained their glow with no dust particles lingering. They can easily be placed in the tub with the kids to clean them periodically and/or wiped down if used outdoors or during traveling.
The hardest part is carrying the box of Fisher-Price Soft Flex Balls around the store if you forget to grab a shopping cart upon entering the store. These can also be found at Kmart and KB Toys. The colors are limited as well as the size is only one, but upon opening the box all you need to do is dump the contents inside the ball pit and play can begin immediately. This is an easy way for us to add to our collection of balls. We could fill several more boxes inside the Intex Jump-O-Lene. This is the only brand I have found in recent months at Toys R Us. They roll with ease, do not hurt bare feet when stepping on them and can bounce.
While the box displayed here shows other colors I have received the same ones in each box that I have picked up on separate visits to Toys R Us. Fisher-Price states on their site these are for 18 months and up. The boxes I purchased had age groups over three listed.
