The Bottom Line: Kids under 6 will love it. I recommend it only for kids under 6 if 60 dollars is not a problem. It may well be a gift idea.

| stse's Full Review: Fisher Price Kasey the Kinderbot 77899 |
First of all, this is a gift from someone for my son's birthday. The price is about 54 dollars. If I had to buy it, I wouldn't recommend this toy due to lot of things I see which I think it is not that great. However, my son loves the toy, I will recommend it anyway. Especially comparing with poo-chi, this toy is way better.
Introduction
Kinderbot is a robotic toy which is educational. It can move his body and, head and hand. It DOES NOT walk at all!!
Kinderbot has a name too. It's called Kasey. It's body is actually the brain. Well, you kids will look at the body and do all sort of funs with it. In the back, Kasey is like carrying a backpack. Actually, that is a game cartridge. You can alter each cartridge for different subjects. This is cool when you kids get bored with one subject. The cartridge that comes with Kasey is a cartridge that will learn alphabets, counting and fun
When it first started, there is a cartoon character named Chips, he/she pulls down the curtain with four categories for kids to pick. As a matter of fact, most of the activities are multiple choices and they are in 4 square selection.
1. abc farm
This is where kids learn the alphabets.
It will show 4 objects on windows and it will ask you
which one is associated with the alphabet.
2. counting kitchen
This is where kids learn counting.
It will show 4 objects in 4 different windows/squares and it will ask you which number is correct.
3. The play ground
This is where kids dance with the robot. My son loves that part. He dances and sings with the Chip (cartoon character all the time. I have a feeling this is only thing that gets him interested in the robot)
4. game room.
This is where kids play game. Kids can play game in this selection. There are four choices. Magic, Matches, Recognition and multiple questions-answers. All of them are multiple choice, all kids have to do is to hit a button to find out which one is correct.
Other features
Body display - LCD DISPLAY, with 4 buttons around it
Volume - It has a volume in the back, so you can adjust your volume
Contrast - It will adjust the screen display
Battery - It hides in the feet area. It requires 3 D batteries.
Shut off - If the kids don't want to play with the game and forgot to turn off in a couple of minutes or less, it shuts off by itself. It saves batteries!!
moving parts - The eyes, eyebrows, the body, hands will move, the light (mouth) will keep talking
size - about 5 pounds heavy and 24 inches tall and this robot has only eight fingers.
Now let's talk about what can be improved.
Improvement needed
1. Colorless and LCD display.
For 54 bucks, I don't think it's worth it because of its LCD display. You have to be in a bright area to play with this toy. That reminds me of the old game boy. It was still good, but eventually, it went color!!
2. Non walking robot.
It will be much better if the robot can walk. It's nice to see it move around with its body, eye brows, and eyes. (by the way, there is no mouth, the only mouth indicator is the light, when it flashes, that's in a talking mode) It would be better if it actually walks like the POO chi.
3. Buttons.
My son first was confused when the startup begins. The little cartoon character pulls down a curtain with four squares. My son immediately thought and went to touch the screen to pick. It is NOT a touch screen robot. He has to touch the buttons at the corners of the body. Well, that proves one thing, if this robot can be operated by touching screen, it would be much better.
4. Reset
More often, you can't just turn off and on to turn it on. Why, I have no idea. The menu does not say much, just say you may have to do that if it does not turn on. You have to go push the reset button at the bottom and then turn it on.
5. Batteries.
It's only batteries operated ONLY. It will be better if this is rechargeable (of course, you can buy your own rechargeable batteries, but you my have to keep recharging) and it does not say or display battery is being in low level from the robot.
6. Expensive cartridges.
If you want to change another one, it will cost you another
15 dollars or so. For interactive learning, it may be good for kids like toddler or kinder-gardener, but for older kids, I think those cartridges are not worth it. They can go to internet and find more more and it is free.
Conclusion
The idea is good, but it needs lots of room for improvement. I normally don't recommend this product. However, my kid for some reason loves to dance and sing with robot. I don't know if that is the only part he loves. Maybe for kids under 6, it is okay. Anyway, if you are into interactive learning for children under 6. This may be the toy. Otherwise, go with the PC. If you want to send a Christmas gift to someone and want to impress small kids. This is the gift. Kids won't have too many criticism. All they want is toy! For small kids, this toy is okay and at least it is better than poo-chi. By the way, my poo-chi cost 25 dollars, and guessed how long my kid played with that toy? only 1 day!!!!!
This Kinderbot will definitely last more than a day!!
