| onegoofywar's Full Review: Fairfield Inn Bar Harbor |
Fairfield Inns, a Marriott brand, are located all over the country. You pretty much know what to expect from them, much as you do with McDonalds restaurants. What makes them different is the location and physical attributes of the property.
The Bar Harbor Fairfield Inn is located on Eden St., also known as busy route #3. Entering, and especially exiting, the property onto Eden St. can be tricky, as it seems everyone is speeding. I stayed there the first week of September, after Labor Day, and imagine traffic must be much worse during the summer.
The hotel is right on the water, kind of, as a private home lies between the ocean and the hotel. Still, you can walk to the oceanfront as this hotel has one most unusual aspect- you are allowed to use the facilities at the hotel next door, the upscale Holiday Inn Regency. The Regency has a swimming pool/hot tub (seasonal), three restaurants and a gift shop. Apparently the same person or company owns both. Walk a few feet from the Fairfield into the Regency like you own the place. I wonder if the guests at the Regency know that? They certainly are paying more than the $140.00 per night I was spending (expect to pay more during the peak summer season).
The Fairfield Inn is an older building and the rooms are somewhat dated. Ours was a twin double with large windows overlooking a wooded area and some very tall trees. We were on the top floor, the fourth, and I awoke one morning to a squirrel sitting on a branch looking at me. With the windows open you can hear the traffic whizzing by on route #3.
The room was very clean and well appointed. It was obvious that they pay attention to detail and overall I would rate the room above average.
The continental breakfast was rather sparse, but the front desk employees were friendly and helpful with directions. Parking is free.
The hotel is about one mile to Bar Harbor center and the entrance to Acadia National Park. Do yourself a favor and stop at one on the several Lobster Pounds located nearby in Tremont- theyre great.
One last note: This is a seasonal hotel and is closed at the end of October until mid-May.
