| BHylka's Full Review: Faball Sledge Hammer Syntactive Bowling Ball |
I got this ball last fall. Hammer advertised the Syntactive as a hook monster. I needed one so I thought I'd try it out. I wanted this ball to go long, then come crashing in on the back end (I already had a Sledge Hammer Crimson drilled for max hook). The pin is about 5" from my PAP, above and centered between my finger holes, with the cg under and right of my ring finger. My Syntactive is pin out about 4".
The back end on my ball leaves a lot to be desired. It is not a hook monster. Even when it makes its break to the pocket, it does so in a smooth manner, not a quick left turn. The ball does hit hard and carry well, no complaints there. But it took me about 3 weeks to get it into my head that this is not a heavy oil ball.
Once I figured that out, I really started to like my Syntactive. Now when my Crimson Sledge is too much, I pull out the Syntactive. Because it does go long, I can use it when the heads start to fry. I would say it is a good choice for medium to medium dry lanes. If it finds total dry, though, the Syntactive runs across the lane. There are definitely better dry lane balls.
I wouldn't say I'm down on the Syntactive, but it's not my favorite ball. I should note that I've shot many a high 600 series with it, so it's not complete junk. Just remember that this ball is not a heavy oil ball. It's not a hook monster. It is a ball that is controllable. It does make a smooth move to the pocket. It does hit hard. It is also discontinued by Hammer, so good luck finding one.
