| black85l98's Full Review: Ezra Brooks Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey |
I must admit that I prefer Makers Mark to Ezra Books. Now that the truth is out I will continue with my review. The first point that should be made is price. A 750ML bottle of Ezra can be found for less than nine dollars. Many Bourbons of far less quality cost more. If price is a concern there is no better Bourbon.
I do not know much about what goes into making this fine bourbon. I can tell you that it is a sour mash, aged at least two years, made mostly from corn and pure limestone water. Of course most Bourbons fit this description.
Ezra has a nice light amber color that presents well in the bottle and the glass. The flavor has a mellow start with a faint charcoal flavor followed by a hot finish. Some would think the finish a bit too harsh. I recommend a mixer for the faint of heart.
I like to pour Ezra over crushed ice and let it set. After about half the ice has melted it is perfect for my tastes. You want to make sure your ice does not contain any bad flavor and would do well to filter the water you use to make it. I often mix this bourbon with Coke and do not feel bad about doing so. It makes a great drink and is a nice change.
