| Sixthsense's Full Review: Estroven Menopause Monitor Test Kit |
If things go at this rate there won't be a test that won't be found in your local drug store or department store for home use. I never thought I'd see something like this on the shelf and a test that's so easy to use.
Estroven has came out with a home test that lets you know whether or not you are on the verge of or at perimenopause or menopause. If you are 40-55 and are experiencing symptoms of menopause this test is for you. It monitors the levels of the hormone FSH or follical stimulating hormone. This is a hormone elevates when ovarian hormones decrease. This could signal that a woman is due for menopause or perimenopause. 12 months of no periods usually means menopause, but irregular or missed periods could mean perimenopause. Menopause or "change of life" signals the end of a woman's child bearing years. It's usually followed by hot flashes, mood swings and other symptoms. Also a woman that has had a total hysterectomy including the removal of ovaries can be thrown into menopause. Even a woman that has kept her ovaries can experience the symptoms of menopause. That is why I bought the test.
The package contains 2 test cassettes, 2 disposable droppers, 2 collection cups, and easy to follow instructions. All you have to do is to remember to collect the first sample of urine first thing in the morning in the cup provided with the kit. Then you take the dropper and draw up the urine. Drop exactly four drops of urine onto the little round spot on the test cassette and if all is done right you will get one bar or two. One bar means you are not on your way or at menopause and two bars means you are. If you get any other result you might have put too much or too little urine on the cassette. In this case you have to throw the cassette away and use another. Two weeks later you take the test again and see what the results you get. The test claims to be 99% accurate. Consult your DR or Nurse Practitioner about the results and any questions you might have. This test is not intended to replace medical advice. It is only a tool for pre-testing or to use before going to a DR or Nurse Practitioner. They can run a blood test that will pinpoint your FSH levels and better determine your stage of menopause. NEVER use any home test as a substitute for medical help. And UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should this test be used as a reason to stop birth control of any kind.
This test is very easy to use and results come about in seconds. The test is relatively priced at about $20.00. I got mine at CVS for $19.99. I've not seen one, yet, at Wal-Mart or any other discount store, but I hope to see it there soon. One problem that I could see with this is that someone using it might not understand the mechanics of FSH or any hormones related to the menstral cycle or menopause. It would also be a good idea to discuss any symptoms of menopause with your DR before taking this test. They may be signs of other things besides menopause. I believe this test should only be used AFTER you have consulted your DR or Nurse Practitioner anyway.
