| paulv's Full Review: Ebonite Everclear Bowling Ball Polyester Thick She... |
This is a good plastic bowling ball with a clear shell and a Budwiser bottle core. This is a terrific spare ball and can be drilled to hook if the lane condition are dry enough to use plastic. I was surprised to see how well it carried the pins.
It's not the most dynamic of balls but it will get the job done. If I were buying a spare only ball I wouldn't buy this ball. Ebonite makes other less expensive plastics for spares. Why spend a lot of money just for spares?
I do recommend a plastic ball as a piece of equipment you must have for spare shots based on the modern lane conditions.
The Ever Clear cover stock is softer than most plastic I've come across. This gives it a little more reaction when drilled to hook. The cover stock doesn't stay clear. Scratches and and lane oils will dull this ball and even turn it yellow. Cleaning this ball up is real easy, a little rubbing alcohol goes a long way and a good resurfacing will return this ball to a nearly new state.
Ebonite made this ball as a novelty and they sold plenty. The idea of having a softer plastic shell is not new to bowling but since the advent of other compounds plastic have been religated to the roll of a spare ball. The Bud ball has broken the trend and other bowling ball manufacturers are using similar technology. Storm makes a sports ball and Brunswick has the brand new Viz-A-Ball series. You can get spiders, skulls, ghouls and golf balls to name a few. There are others to choose from, so look around until one catches your eye if you just need to be different when it comes to a spare ball.
The Ebonite Bud ball is every bit as good as any other more expensive plastic novelty ball on the market today.
