| Mom2TyZick's Full Review: Easy Score - Electronic Basketball Set |
Who among us that have procreated has never heard of Little Tikes? It's synonymous with childhood. Every "Little Tikes" purchase we've ever made has been wonderful, so I've come to trust their products and this nifty little basketball goal is no exception.
With the birth of a son, every male has hopes of sports stardom. When my son was 3 months old, my husband began discussing baseball gloves and basketball goals with me. After talking a bit of sense into him, we held off on the purchase of a basketball goal (regulation size, for Pete's sake) and decided on a compromise: the Easy Score Basketball Set. I should tell you that we did not buy this when Ty was 3 months old, but rather when he was 3 years old!
The goal is wonderful for our family for many reasons. First, it's brightly colored so it is attractive. I was soon to learn, however, that realism is to be valued and things that look more "grown up" are preferred. However, for something that only stands 4 feet tall at its greatest height, purple and yellow work for me.
That brings me right into another good point: the height. The Easy Score Basketball Set has 6 different height settings to allow it to grow with your child's skill level. It is very easy to maneuver up and down, though I do need 2 hands to do it. My son, now 4, has a buddy who plays with him regularly, and he is able to lower it to accommodate his playmate all by himself. Self-sufficiency is a valued trait around this household.
The Easy Score Basketball Set comes with a nice (authentic looking) ball but the hoop is large enough to accommodate many balls that you probably have lying around the house already. That hoop has seen a bumpy ball from Discovery Toys, a soccer ball or two and even a few of those miniature college basketballs you win at the fair. This is nice if you have a few children playing at once and they don't understand the concept of "make it, take it." But the Easy Score Basketball Set is a teaching tool, so sharing can begin here. It also helps develop good eye-hand coordination along with those all-important gross motor skills.
I also love the fact that this toy is perfect indoors or out. We keep ours outside on our patio during the summer and bring it inside to enjoy during cold weather. Ours hasn't faded even slightly, we simply rinse with the hose and allow to dry when it is time to bring it inside for the winter.
I do have one small complaint, and it seems almost too trivial to mention, but I will since you do need all of the facts before spending thirty dollars on this little gem. The goal, when not filled with water or sand, doesn't stand up well. Even the wind blows it over and certainly it can't withstand a basketball pounding on its backboard. I know this is easily fixable (just fill it with water, you lazy loon) but it does decrease the mobility of this product when I do this. I like to be able to drag in to the front yard if we are on our porch, or drag it back to the backyard when we are ready to sit on the deck.
Don't let this last little whine of mine deter you from buying this goal is your child wants one. It's a wonderful toy and we aren't disappointed with it in anyway. It's certainly been among our most enduring toys and I expect it to be around when I give birth to the next Michael Jordan.
