| xyzwyatt's Full Review: Disney Princess UNO Card Game |
I have been patiently waiting for this UNO game to be back in stock and managed to get the last one this time. We found the UNO Princess game at Target for only $5.50 which was worth every penny. You should have seen the joy on my daughters face, she was as happy as can be. Each time a new princess was played she glowed with enthusiasm.
We play a lot of UNO around here but for some reason my daughter was more excited over this version than others that we had. There is a large selection of princesses and hopefully I can name them all. The princesses are as follows: Cinderella, Snow White, Mulan, Pochahonas, Areial, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, and Jasmine. The action cards feature Disney characters such as Mushu, Sebastian, Flounder, and Tinkerbell.
I thought the cards were designed nicely. The characters are large with detail showing the portrait of the characters down to their hips. I like that they added other princesses such as Aerial, Jasmine, and Pochahonas which I think helps to avoid too much stereotyping.
There are 110 cards in this deck and they are small and thin. They are very similar to a regular uncoated deck of playing cards. The box is marked for ages 7 and up however there is no reading involved so a younger child should be able to play the game as well. My daughter is 5 and can play it perfectly. It can accommodate 2-10 players and normal playing time is 5-30 minutes.
This could be an educational game if you are working with a child on numbers or colors. It gives the child an opportunity to think which card comes next. Advanced users can practice their addition in scoring the points at the end. The number cards are face value, action cards are 20 points, wilds are 50 points, and the dragon card is 100 points.
The game is played just like the traditional UNO game with a big surprise. The object of the game is to be the first one to get rid of all of your cards. Each player is dealt 7 cards. The player follows what is played on the discard pile by playing the same color or the same number. If the player doesnt have a match they can either play a wild card and change the color or draw a card from the deck until they find a card that will work. The player who is down to one card should yell UNO to notify the table that they are about to win.
There are several action cards in the deck such as draw 2, draw 4, skip, reverse, and wild which changes color.
The unique part of this game comes with the Dragon Card. When the dragon card is played the other players must try slay it with a prince card. If the player does not have a prince they must draw from the draw pile until one comes up. The prince cards are easily identified because they have a shield with a dragon emblem next to the number. The new card has not caused any confusion during our games.
One of the challenges will be to find players to play this game. This is very much a females game. We managed to bribe her brother to play with us. He managed to stay composed through one game but wouldnt agree to more than one. If youre shopping for a boy there is also a game called Disney UNO card game that is similar to this with all the characters, not just princesses.
One thing that I noticed was different about this card game compared to the original UNO game is that the colors are pastels. It is pink rather than red, aqua rather than blue, teal rather than green. I didnt like the way the number one was written on the card. It looks like a roman numeral I rather than the number 1.
Overall this is a fun game that really adds character to the game play. If your child loves princesses and loves to play UNO this would be a sure thing!
