| Freak369's Full Review: Dimetapp Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops |
Sometimes its amazing the products that you come across when reading through the different sections and categories at the site, if it werent for Bops_moms review review of the Dimetapp Get Better Bear Pops theres a pretty good chance I would have never come across this product listing. For once my insomnia paid off and I stumbled across this topic and wanted to express my true love for these little cough suppressing candies. With four kids in the house and my neighbors young daughter here almost every day, I keep a good stock of these on hand when someone gets a cough or when the tell tale signs of a cold start showing. Even though my brood will never admit it, this is the first thing they ask for when they get a cough and I feel better giving them something larger than a cough drop and something milder than Halls.
Dimetapp Get Better Bear Sore Throat Pops
These sore throat soothers are available in two flavors grape and cherry. The boys are head-core cherry fans but my neighbors daughter asks for grape so I try to keep both flavors on hand. The sucker pops are individually wrapped with printing on the cellophane and stick just so you know that it is indeed a sucker for the sick and not just a treat. This is great if they accidentally get mixed in with suckers and candy so they dont get gobbled up by accident. The suckers are shaped like little bears and are pretty darn cute if you ask me. They are about and inch high by about an inch wide so even little kids can use these to quiet a cough. The taste is nice but not as sweet as a regular sucker pop, theres no medicine taste to it and providing a child doesnt bite into it it should last about fifteen to twenty minutes.
You should start to see results in about five to ten minutes but if it takes a little longer dont get worried that its not working. These shouldnt be used by children that are coughing non-stop or are spitting up a great deal of phlegm. Having something in their mouths might make the situation worse. My neighbors daughter is three and uses these with no problem but I try to make sure that she is sitting down while its in her mouth. Walking or running around with one of these in your mouth is a total no-no in this house because I know it would only be a matter of time before one of the brood would come walking up to me with a stick through is cheek. You should check the size of the bear from time to time to make sure there arent any small pieces that could break off and choke a child. It seems silly to have a warning on suckers but there is a possibility of this being a chocking hazard if there isnt a little parental supervision. Just like the tag on your blow-dryer that reads do not use in the rub or while asleep, the Dimetapp Get Better Bear Pops shouldnt be given to kids that are going to sleep for the night unless you are going to be there to remove it when they doze off. I try to avoid that situation because I dont really want all that sugar [corn syrup and sucrose] in their mouth overnight.
You might want to check the back of the bag for the expiration date, its on the back left hand side and will give you the lot number [in case you need to contact Dimetapp] and the best by date. If you plan on going through a lot of them at once or over the course of a few days you might not be too concerned with the date but if you only anticipate using them from time to time see how long they are good for. I keep mind inside a zipper bag in the refrigerator so they are nice and fresh but thats just my preference. If you live in an area that is especially hot in the summer you should try to store these some place cool or they might break down a little and lose their shape. Nothing worse than reaching for a cute cherry bear and getting a misshaped blob instead.
Things To Know
I had to laugh the first time I read the back of the bag its a childs product and it says to keep out of the reach of children. Per the packaging this shouldnt be used for more than two days. If your child still has a hacking cough you might want to call a doctor and see if there is something a little stronger than your child can take. Dimetapp says that this isnt for kids under age two but you are your best judge when it comes to this type of situation. Id have no trouble giving one of these to my child if they were younger but I certainly wouldnt let them wander around with them or leave them alone with it.
I checked the bag several times [and even went back to Bops_moms review to see if she mentioned it] and I couldnt find any recommendations on the number that can be used in a certain time period. Ive never had to give the boys more than a few of these before they started to feel better but as I said earlier, if a cough lasts more than a few days or gets worse, you might want to consult a physician. Be sure to read the back of the package for all the ingredients and warnings or if your child has any allergies.
The Bottom Line
I really like the idea of a cough suppressant that a child can use without having to worry about he or she swallowing a sough drop. That doesnt mean that there isnt a chance a small part [ear or leg most likely] wont fall off [or get nibbled away] but these are a lot safer than the alternatives in my opinion. They come in a bag of ten pops [one flavor per bag] and are a great thing to have around the house in case a cough breaks out during the middle of the night. These are a must have for kids that wont, cant or just flat out refuse to take a liquid cough medicine. Who can resist a cute little bear on a stick especially when they taste so good!
