psalministry1's Full Review: Dell 3110cn Laser Printer
I've just purchased this new MicroTrack 24/96. I definitely had to read the directions for this, mainly because I didn't want to break my new recorder.
I was looking for a recorder for my voice lessons that I have for college. My old cassette player has become "old-school" and I needed to make the change to something that I could download to my computer. I now see that I have found the best player for my use, as a professional musician.
Upon opening the box, the first thing that I see is the quick-start guide. It was very informative, but there was nothing quick about it. Small print with lots of steps, but still very informative. This little powerhouse comes with everything that you would need to use it for quite a while: 64-bit compact flash card, 1/8" stereo "T" microphone, USB cable and power supply, earbuds, carrying pouch, CD-ROM with a pdf User Guide, and Audacity software.
After opening the box and reading the guide, I looked for a battery. It is internal and partially charged. All I had to do was charge it the rest of the way. I read the directions on how to make a recording and did so. Very clear sound with a lot of options. You can save each file as a .WAV file or an .MP3 file.
My first test was in my vocal lesson. I was able to get it out of my bag and ready to record in 10 seconds. I was able to pause quickly and even start an new recording in a matter of seconds. I ended up making four individual MP3 recordings. It was a total of 45 minutes worth of recording time.
At close proximity, or far away, the clarity is awesome. There is absolutely no hiss or buzz. I can hear very distinct sounds that I need for my lessons to be effective. There is no noise when I press the buttons either. This is truly a professional's recorder.
As you can tell by reading this review, YOU NEED TO READ THE MANUAL! There is one button for recording, volume, and R/L Adjust buttons. There is also a scroll button on the side for making selections on the LCD display, which I might add is very easy to read. I wish that there was a "stop" button on the face, so that it would turn into a "out-of-the-box" recorder. However, just like anything else, once you learn it and get used to using it, it's a snap.
UPDATE: I went to OfficeMax last night and they had a Lexar 256MB Compact Flash card for $9.99, with a $10.00 rebate. I now have plenty of space for recording several songs in their entirety. I simply used the MicroTrack to format the card, and we are in business. Check prices on these, mainly for expansion.
Battery usage is quite good. I had to listen to my player at bedtime, and I ended up having it on from 12 midnight until 6:30 AM. I had to use it for class the following day. I recorded my lesson for an hour and it worked flawlessly, without having to recharge right away.
Lastly, M-Audio has software updates on their website. They usually keep up with their products. I will keep you informed of how it is working for me. If you purchase this, I really don't think that you will be disappointed. M-Audio has wonderful products, of which I have; Pro-88 Midi controller, 2-Oxygen8 midi keyboards. Really reliable products.
