| Javelina's Full Review: Coppertone Endless Summer Sunless Tanning Foam Lig... |
After getting back home from my honeymoon in Mexico this past November, I was greeted by New Yorks wonderful weather. I knew my tan would disappear in a flash. My skin pretty much goes from pale, to a shade of red, back to pale. I stopped in CVS to see what they might have, since my old sunless tanner was pretty old, and found Coppertone sunless tanning foam.
I try to avoid a lot of tanning or getting sunburnt. I am very fair and in my late 20s, and quite obsessed with skin care. I like the look of a tan, but without the risks of exposure to the sun.
Coppertone Endless Summer® Foam
One container cost me around $13.00, which I almost wasnt willing to fork out. You get 3.7 fl oz (110 ml).
The container has a cap. Underneath is the pump, which has dual chambers. You press down and the foam is dispensed - pink from one side, white from the other. The foam is supposed to dry in 5 minutes and show visible color in 30 minutes to allow correction of any mishaps. After that, you are supposed to leave it on a total of about 3 hours.
You can get this sunless tanner in either light/medium or medium/dark.
Ingredients
Water, Ethoxydiglycol, Glycerin, Lactic Acid, Oligomeric Diaminalkyl Siloxane, Capryl/Capramidopropyl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Polysorbate 20, Diazolidinyl Urea, Fragrance, Citric Acid, Dihydroxyacetone, D&C Red 33 (from Drugstore.com)
Directions
Apply to face and body as desired. Dispense product onto clean, dry skin and blend the color ribbons together. Smooth an even layer over skin using horizontal and vertical strokes to ensure complete coverage. Work quickly, but thoroughly, taking care to avoid eyebrows and hair. Use less product on elbows, knees, and heels to prevent deeper tanning in these area. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands and nails with soap and after after application. Wait 10-15 minutes before dressing. If foam contacts fabric, launder within an hour. Wait at least three hours before showering, bathing or swimming.
My Thoughts & Experiences
I had just thrown out my Coppertone Endless Summer Lotion from two years ago, since these products have a shelf life on them. I also tried a Banana Boat Sunless Tanning Lotion which was sort of disgusting. By the time I purchased this foam, I was bummed about finding a decent sunless tanner, but I did have that little spark of hope when I picked up this one.
The first thing I noticed and liked about this is the foam. I have found that the lotions can tend to feel thick and heavy, and dont offer good coverage because you cant really work it in. The Banana Boat one I had just tried felt like I was just smearing the lotion around, not evenly. The foam is thin and more watery, which I really like. It goes on smoothly and easily, and I feel like I am getting good coverage.
You have to make sure that you press the dispenser evenly so that you get both white and pink foam, which need to mix in order to work properly. Sometimes it doesnt come out quite evenly, but I havent had any major problems with it.
Another thing I really like is that this stuff dries fast. Its winter, I get out of the shower, we have the space heater blasting. I grab my Coppertone Sunless Tanning Foam, apply, and voila! Im done! Even if it is not particularly hot or dry, this is a thin, watery consistency, and dries quickly.
The scent is not offensive as I was expecting or what I am used to. Yes, it does smell slightly funky, and I apologized to my husband, who remarked that he didnt know what I was apologizing for. I cant quite explain the smell sort of a cross between fuel and something nutty. It isnt horrible, and isnt fragranced either. I am not bothered by the scent, even when it is applied to my face. I can smell it, but it isnt overpowering. Us women go through a lot for beauty and this is by no means something I have to endure compared to some of the other tortures I go through in my beauty regime.
I generally ignored the directions about letting the product dry and avoiding staining clothes. I usually apply before going to bed, and have slept on very light color sheets with no problem.
Color so natural no one will ever know it came form a bottle! The pink foam contains a color activator that works with the proteins in your skin to enhance the color of your own natural skin tones, while accelerating color development. Smooth skin tans better, so we've added Alpha Hydroxy and special moisturizers to the white foam to help soften, smooth and hydrate your skin preparing it for color development.
As for the sunless tan, I like it. I dont think it is too orangey. I like the color and the darkness, which for the light/medium shade is just right for me. Everyone is probably a little different, but I am very fair and the color came out very nicely, just what I wanted. I should note that I always exfoliate before applying a sunless tanner. Most recently, I have become obsessed with the Body Shops exfoliating towel and gloves, which do a great job of smoothing my skin and "priming" it for sunless tanner. There are plenty of products out there that can prepare your skin to be smooth and exfoliated properly so that the results you get from the sunless tanner are maximized.
After applying the tanner, I wash my hands thoroughly. I have not had any problems with the tanner staining my hands or fingernails. After washing my hands, sometimes I will use a cotton ball/cotton round to apply some sunless tanner to the top of my hands.
Darest I use this on my face? I battled back and forth deciding if I had enough courage for it. After enough uses, I went for it. The way I apply the tanner to my face is not with my fingers. I use the cotton rounds in this instance too (in addition to the backs of my hands). I try to rub and buff the product around as much as possible, so that I dont get reverse raccoon eyes or streaks. This method seems to work pretty well. I wake up in the morning and it looks great!
The color does start to develop after about 30 minutes. Usually, by that time, I am dead asleep. However, it is good that you can quickly cover any missed spots for an even, flawless tan. I like that you are given the opportunity to check on the color and make any corrections to the tanner if need be.
The claim is that the Coppertone Endless Summer® Foam is streak free. I havent gotten any streaks, although there were a few times I applied it where the top half of my arm was darker than the bottom, because I did not apply it evenly.
I really dont have too much to say that is bad about this product. I'm guessing that some people might hate the smell, Most sunless tanners have their share of issues, so I am pretty satisfied with this product.
Overall
I am really glad that I was willing to shell out the money for this product, and I would do it again in a flash. When it comes time to replace this product, or it hits time for next winters replacement container, I will gladly do so.
I looked at Drugstore.com consumer reviews. It is amazing how many different perspectives there are. Lots of people love this product, and a lot of people hate it. I like this project a lot, everything from the application to the color. I have had many compliments on my tan and my color. With this product and the light/medium shade, I am able to maintain a light, natural tan, and I don't have to worry about sacrificing my skin's health for vanity!
