Dionne25's Full Review: Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed
I was just about to write a review on a Simmons Beautyrest Mattress, when, on a whim, I decided to do a check on Coleman products. Well, to my shock, not only was the air mattress on the site, but no one has reviewed it yet!!!. So, before I get into the other mattress, I'll talk about the Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed.
This is probably getting old, and many of you are probably sick of hearing about the many adventures of Chris and Dionne, but, here comes another one. When we moved into our apartment in Alaska, we didn't have enough money to purchase a decent bed. We went on one of our many excursions to Wal-Mart, and decided to purchase the Coleman. We knew this was only going to be temporary until we could afford a decent mattress, so we decided to give the Coleman brand a try.
Here are the features you can find with the Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed:
ComfortSmart Coil System conforms to your body's shape and sleeping position providing consistent head-to-toe support
Advanced Double Lock Valve locks in air two ways
Approximate inflated size: 77" X 61" X 9.5"
Fast and simple inflation and deflation
Exclusive PVC formula is 15% more puncture resistant than the leading competition (based on ASTM Designation: F1306-90)
Coil construction provides more strength, firmness and comfort than beam construction.
Wider side gussets add comfort and stability
Rayon flocked top provides a slip-free surface
Inflates in under 3 minutes with Coleman® Rechargeable Pump
48 coils
Comfort Smart Coil system for superior comfort & body support
I believe you also have the option of choosing either green or brown. At the time, only the green was available and in my humble opinion, I prefer the green just because it looks better (besides, green is Chris's favorite color, so that was that - kidding).
First Impression
I've used air mattresses before, so this was nothing new to me and I knew what to expect from air mattresses. We also purchased an additional pump, as this particular model did not come with a pump. In the box, you have the mattress, a repair kit, and instructions.
Inflating the mattress was pretty easy. Heck, even I could do it. It took us about 5 minutes or so to get the mattress inflated and in our bedroom, it took up a fair amount of space. It wasn't much, but it was our bed.
The first night we slept on the air mattress, it was very firm and comfortable. Chris is about a foot and a half taller than I am and one of our main concerns was whether or not Chris would have enough legroom. We both fit on the mattress very comfortably and I think his feet may have stuck out a little less than an inch. There was plenty of room for any of those nights if we didnt want to be near each other and just the right amount of space for the two of us to cuddle.
We found the air mattress to be very durable and to hold our combined weights. If there ever came a time to re-inflate the air mattress, that wasnt a problem either. The only downfall was that we didnt have a box spring or anything of the sort, so the air mattress was on the floor.
I think we used the air mattress for about 3 months. By that time we were able to afford a decent mattress (which I will discuss in another review), and the Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed was a good piece of bedding for such a short period of time.
When it came time to deflate and put away the mattress, that was just as easy. The pump we purchased had both an inflate and deflate slot, so it was just as quick, if not quicker to let the air out of the mattress. It folds up pretty tight and can store in your closet, under your bed, or wherever you please.
We had a few guests (okay, they were my friends) stay over and we took the Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed out and used it as a guest bed. One stayed for a week and the other stayed for about a month. They were visiting on business and we refused to let them stay in a hotel. The Coleman worked like a dream for them and each day they spoke of how comfortable they were on the mattress. We were happy (and relieved) because we were a little worried if it would be durable. We heard no complaints and that made me very happy.
One Setback
Im not sure if it was because we used the air mattress for such an extended amount of time, but right before we moved from Alaska, we took the Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed out of hibernation and used it for the last few weeks before our move. It was an uncomfortable experience. There seemed to be a few holes in the mattress and no matter how many times we tried to locate and patch the hole, there seemed to be another one around the corner. I think that the mattress would only hold air for one day, at the most, before we had to inflate it again. We could literally feel the mattress deflate and even hear the air coming out of it. It was no big deal because we were moving, but it was still a trying time. Were not really sure what happened, but we just figured it was normal wear and tear.
Overall Thoughts
If I had to do it again, I would get another air mattress in a heartbeat. Lately, Chris has been talking that we need to do some camping (eek) and Im sure if we had a choice, we would purchase another Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed. I feel it has a pretty good shelf life and is as durable as an air mattress can be.
We found the air mattress to be very comfortable and durable for the time that we had the air mattress. With the exception of us having to get rid of it because of the holes, we found it to be an asset for us and our guests. If we ever decide to go camping, we may purchase another Coleman Queen Comfortsmart Air Bed. We know it will be reliable.
