chrisceb's Full Review: Clinique Non Aerosol Hairspray 8 oz
Don’tcha just hate hairspray? It’s so sticky and goopy and heaven forbid if you ever get caught in the rain when you’re wearing it. Luckily, I’m wearing a hairstyle that doesn’t require me to use much hair spray...if at all. Phew!
Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve worn my fair share of hairsprays in my life. I used to have “big hair” for many years, which required about a half a bottle of hair spray for each “do”. My needs haven’t changed much since my big-do days; I still want my hairspray to hold. I just don’t need as much of it as I used to.
The object of hairspray is to “hold” your style. Right? I mean what’s the point of spraying sticky, alcohol based, flammable products on your hair. To hold it!
The Product:
Clinique Non-Aerosol Hairspray isn’t one of those products. I’ve been using Clinique makeup products for many years, and even once thought I was hooked on their hair care products. But now that I’ve tried some of the wonderful salon products on the market, I’ve come to realize Clinique fails in comparison. The Non-Aerosol Hairspray I use is from Clinique’s Bonus gifts. Once in a while they’ll throw in a 1.8 oz sample bottle of their hairspray.
My bottle is Clinique green plastic and fits nicely in your purse, gym bag or desk. Clinique says their Non-Aerosol Hairspray provides... “A fine, clear mist to give gentle, flexible control without stiffness or build-up”. The price is $11.00 for an 8-oz bottle (ouch!) and like all Clinique products, it’s allergy free and 100% fragrance free.
To apply you just hold the bottle 10” from your hair and press the pump quickly. If your pump gets clogged just rinse it under warm water. Here’s tip, don’t let this bottle rest on it’s side...it will leak. Oh and what a mess THAT makes in a diaper bag!
My Experience:
I’ll begin my negative review by saying this hairspray does practically nothing to hold your hair. I expect a few pumps of hairspray, at the root of my hair to slightly stiffen and hold my hair a good 5-8 hours. I want to be able to spray a couple pumps and not plaster my head with squirt after squirt of hairspray. However, I also want my hair to maintain its “movement” and not to look stiff and over sprayed with hair lacquer. Trust me, this is not too much to ask of a hair spray, I’ve found one that does the trick called IT.
Clinique Non-Aerosol Hairspray has no hold-ability. To get any kind of hold you must spray and spray and spray, creating an old fashioned hair net. And that in turn weights down your style causing your hair to fall and look unnatural and stiff. All that for $11! What a price for hair spray. Even some of the salon sprays don’t cost that much!
I do use Clinique Non-Aerosol Hairspray in a pinch. I keep a sample bottle in my makeup drawer at home for those times when I’ve run out of my regular spray (IT). And I also keep a bottle of it in my purse/diaper bag. For times when I just need a quick pick me up. Like when I’ve been driving with the windows down and I need to go see a client. I don’t need an all day type of spray for those occasions, but I do need something to tame the fly-aways. And this product is good for that.
Would I buy it? Heck no! Not for $11. I’m much happier with my $2.69 hairspray I can get at Wal-Mart. Would I recommend it? Heck no! I mean don’t let the product discourage you from getting the bonus if it’s included. You CAN use the product somehow...even if it’s just to use on your artificial plants. I know you’re probably saying “huh?” What the heck is chrisceb talking about? Did you know that you can clean your artificial plants, such as arrangements or artificial trees, and then spray hairspray on them? It deflects dust and makes the plants look like new...try it! It really works!
Clinique...stick to makeup, y’all do a much better job in that department.
