| rushlies's Full Review: Cleveland Quadpro Titanium Driver |
After reading review after review after review on web page after web page after web page (you too, huh?), I finally picked one up from wholesalegolfequipment.com (a great place to do business with, by the way). Every review I read included a recommendation to go with a shaft upgrade, as everyone seemed to find the stock Cleveland shaft too soft. The model I hit at the local golf shop had a stock shaft, and I didn't hit the ball as consistently as I hit the club that I ended up purchasing. I bought the 9.5 degree driver with the Graffaloy shaft for $129.00. What a gem of a driver!
I will say that for those looking for that high-pitched, tinny "TING" noise off their driver, this club isn't for you. However, if you're buying a driver based on how it sounds, you might consider taking up another sport, as I know of no serious golfer who would base such a serious golf purchase on such a dubious criterion. The sound of the Quadpro Titanium is a bit dull.
Next, if you're looking for that magical wonder club that will send you screaming 270 yards down the fairway on the carry each swing, this probably isn't the club for you, either. I would put the distance on this driver at average to slightly above. To a certain degree, I fully expect it has a bit to do with the ball you're playing. I play a Strata Tour Professional 90 that is on the soft side, and isn't known for its "explosive distance". On solidly stuck drives, I would say the average golfer (playing a commonly played ball) should expect 240-260. Really lean into one and grab it, and you should be around 290. On my better drives, I've been getting around 270-280, and I'm plenty happy with that. If I could hit 300 consistently off the tee, I probably wouldn't have an office......
Having said that, the biggest plus that I have to offer on this club is its forgiveness. Off-center shots do their best to find the fairway (except for the most severe hooks and slices), and most of the mis-hits will give you relatively decent results most of the time. Personally, I'd much rather have a forgiving driver considering my golf abilities (around a 10 handicap) than a screamer. It's important to keep in mind that no club will compensate for severely impaired swing mechanics, so if you're not getting decent results with this club, your problem is most likely not in the equipment.
The Graffaloy stiff shaft is a nice burgundy color, the clubhead is handsome, and it's not obnoxiously large. Sorry, but I just can't get used to the newer 300+ cc head sizes such as the Cleveland Launcher. I saw a couple of them being played on my home course last Sunday, but the large head size and stock, yellow Fujikara shaft just didn't work for me from an aesthetics point of view.
There are alot of closeout sales on this club right now. If you're in the market for a new driver, you'd serve yourself well by giving this one a try before paying a hundred dollars or more on one of the newer fad drivers. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
