Pros: Convenient pump bottle removes makeup
Cons: Ouch, it burns! Dry, tight skin. Strong smell.
The Bottom Line: Cetaphil for Oily Skin dried and stung my oily, sensitive skin. I would only recommended to the most oily skins and even then, there are products I would recommend more.

| SHeineman's Full Review: Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser for Normal To Oily ... |
I see a derm for treatment of acne. It's the most effective treatment and saves me quite a bit of money on constantly testing new products to control my stubborn problem. It's commonly known within the "beauty world" that Cetaphil is often recommended by derms. Mine was no different. I mentioned to her that I'd tried the original Cetaphil and hated it. She instead suggested I try Cetaphil for Oily Skin and Cetaphil Bar Soap. I left with a sample of the bar soap and purchased the Oily Skin Cleanser on my way home. I thought it would be exactly what I was looking for. I was wrong.
My Cetaphil Experiences
I had tried Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser after hearing some good things about it. It was really bad for my skin type. It didn't remove makeup at all and left me feeling greasy. I have very oily, acne prone skin with a tendency toward the sensitive side. I don't want a fancy cleanser. I want a simple cleanser that removes makeup and grime, that I can follow up with my prescription creams. I don't want to pay a huge amount for a simple cleanser, even though I am willing to pay a lot for other beauty products. I want it THAT simple. Cetaphil for Oily Skin seemed to fit that bill at about $7 for an 8 oz bottle.
On a side note, I gave my bottle of Cetaphil to my Mom who has dry skin and rosacea, and she loves it. If this describes your skin, you may want to give it a shot.
The packaging is very similar to regular Cetaphil but it does have a pump on the bottle, which I prefer. To wash my face later that evening, I pumped out some of the clear gel-like cleanser and put it on my face. First, I have to note the scent. It's super strong and unpleasant. Because regular Cetaphil has no detectable scent to my nose, I was a little shocked that this was so strong.
This cleanser does not lather up but that doesn't bother me because typically the ingredients that cause a product to lather are more harsh. The foam's fun but not essential. A little covered my whole face. The first thing I noticed was that my skin was burning. It went well beyond a tingle. I'd used it over my eyes to remove my eye makeup, and they were stinging some. When I rinsed the product off, I saw that, on the positive side, it did do a nice job at removing my makeup. However, my skin felt tight and dry. My oily skin rarely feels tight and dry. I don't even use moisturizer 95% of the time because dryness is not an issue. But this feeling was terrible.
I hate to use a product once and write it off completely so I tried this a few more times, taking care to keep it out of my eyes, of course! My skin always felt tight.
What DOES Work for Me
Cetaphil's line of products just do not cut it for me. I hate the original and the Oily Skin cleansers. I do like the Bar Soap's performance but I don't like using bar soaps on my face (I have a sanitary issue with them). I discovered Clean and Clear for Sensitive Skin which does exactly what I want a cleanser to do. I also discovered that Clean and Clear Sensitive Skin and Johnson and Johnson Head To Toe Baby Wash are practically the same product. I wrote a review about their performance and similarities here:

Both of these clean my skin very well and leave it nice and soft, without drying me out. Used with my prescription creams, my skin stays nice and clear. And I can't complain about the under $3 price tag!
