dakotawyatt's Full Review: Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z70 Digital Camera
This camera does it's job. I purchased it specifically to take to a NASCAR race to point, shoot, and shove in my pocket. Little did I know I would prefer this tiny little thing to my big Fuji FinePix3800.
For one thing, it looks so neat. I got the red one, and it's so small that once I put it in my pocket, I forget it's even there. I've gotten more compliments in 4 months on this camera than I ever did in 4 years on my other one. The LCD screen is monstrous compared to most other digital cameras.
I like how quickly it turns on. No, it isn't instant, but it is fairly quick. The shutter speed is wonderful; press the button and the shutter snaps. I can't tell you how many great pictures I missed with my Fuji because of how slow the darn thing is.
I won't lie; I'm not a camera guru. I have not played with all of the options on this camera, nor have I attempted any sort of manual settings. What I have used (and love) is the high speed shutter continuous mode. I teach horseback riding lessons, and every Christmas I take pictures of my students jumping. It is HARD to get the timing right to capture the horse right at the arc of the jump. This camera makes it SO much easier to do that. The continuous mode is only good for 3 frames, but for the average person that should be just fine.
I too was worried about the no viewfinder thing. My salesman ASSURED me I would NOT miss it. With his 5 day guarantee, I set out to take my pictures in the sun in full daylight. Needless to say, I never took the camera back!
The quality of the pictures is wonderful. I always run my pics through a program on the computer before printing them out (an auto correct program). Half the time, there is no visible difference once I've 'touched up' the picture. Most of the time, the quality is crisp and sharp; it isn't only if I'm excessively moving around, or if my subject moves suddenly.
The picture isn't quite as clear with the lens zoomed all the way in because it's impossible to keep your hand perfectly steady (hello, tripod!), but the quality is still decent. I keep my setting on 2 mega pixels.
The plug in battery is GREAT! The life on this camera is so long; at least 3 times as long as the Fuji, which runs off 4 AA batteries. Plus, it makes the camera lighter in weight to not have the AA's.
In closing, for someone like me that needed a camera to take decent action shots, and likes a point and shoot feature, this is a great one! The size, weight, and high quality LCD screen sold me. I've all but abandoned my big, clunky Fuji, and definitely recommend this camera to anyone. No, it isn't perfect. I do wish the screen had a little protection to it, because it is starting to get scratched up from being pulled out of and pushed back into pockets. The continuous shutter feature would be even better if it offered maybe 5 frames instead of 3. The nice metal case, red color, and aluminum accents combine to make the appearance of this camera very appealing as well.
