| Freak369's Full Review: Case Logic Back Seat Organizer with Tray |
When I purchased my new Avalanche I made a promise that it wouldnt get loaded down with accessories, so what do I do? I go out and purchase a bunch of accessories. One of the best investments I made was in two of the Case Logic Back Seat Organizers, one basic model and one deluxe model. Since the boys do a good bit of traveling for school they are in the vehicle a good bit of the time, this means a lot of wear and tear on the seats as well as a mountain of garbage for me to clean out at the end of the day. I waited a few months after getting the Avalanche and breaking it in to install these because I know that had I put them in when I first got it, the organizers would be destroyed. Lets put it this way, just because my kids are geeks doesnt mean that they are gentle. Nothing could be further from the truth they are constantly breaking things, dropping stuff and dont even get me started on the number of paper towels we go through in a single day from spilled beverages.
Case Logic Back Seat Organizer with Tray ABS-20
Since my boys are no longer in any type of car seat or booster seat and just use the standard seat belts, they have a little more movement in the back of the Avalanche than younger kids. My neighbors daughter Annabelle spends her days with me during the week while her father is at work and she gets the most use from this organizer these days. Its not that the boys have outgrown it or look at it as a kiddie item but they have their backpacks and bags that they keep their stuff in. Annabelle has her own little system to storing things and knows in an instant when someone has been going through it. Since we are pretty much on the go all day, she really likes having something where she can put her dolls and toys. The two large main pockets are great for books, magazines, compact disc cases and things that tend to get tossed around your vehicle. There are four smaller pockets on the top of the organizer, two that zipper shut and two that have a mesh front so you can easily find items. Without a doubt one of the nicest features of this seat back organizer the two large adjustable mesh cup holders that will accommodate everything from small sippy cps to 20 ounce soda bottles. You can adjust the amount of slack around the container using a drawstring and when they arent being used you can use the snaps on the side to fold them flat so they dont get in the way of the rest of the organizer. The small flip down tray is nice but not exactly what I would call sturdy in the least. Its nice to have but outside of holding a few pieces of paper or your car keys when you are rooting around for something, its pretty much just there for show.
The size of the organizer is 17 inches long and 26 inches high so if you have a smaller vehicle you may want to measure it out before you purchase this so it that will fit nicely and not hang too low. The depth of it all depends on how much stuff you manage to cram in it. I this one behind the passenger seat where Annabelles car seat is usually located and she has more than enough room it get in and out of the vehicle. Attaching this to the seat isnt a huge task but it does take a little patience to get it positioned correctly and evenly. The top strap goes around the headrest with the bottom straps lopping around the bottom of the seat. A majority of this is made of up high strength nylon with mesh and zippers forming the closures for the pockets. The flip down tray is has a cardboard spine but wont hold up to a tremendous amount of weight without warping.
You can expect to pay anywhere from $12.99 to $19.99 for one of these and in all honesty, they are well worth it, especially if you spend any amount of time at all on the road. This is a great way to keep things handy for kids, give them a little responsibility and keep your vehicle a little less cluttered. If you are planning on purchasing this online please keep in mind that there are several versions of this currently on the market from Case Logic. This one features the flip down tray while others have more pockets or are smaller in size. The ABS 11 Back Seat Organizer offers you little more storage space with a more simplistic design and presentation but both of them are well made, sturdy and easy to clean if need be. On top of all this, you get a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects if it breaks, rips or falls apart and its their fault they will send you a new one.
Security Issues
If you have kids you know that eventually one of them will slide the Gameboy or CD player into one of the pockets and forget about it. This is all a criminal needs to see to try and break in to your vehicle. For some, it doesnt even take seeing something electronic. A few dollars tucked in the mesh pocket might be tempting enough they might figure that is there are a few dollars there what else can they forage for. If you have any worries about this, do what I do and keep a sweatshirt in the vehicle, just flip the sweatshirt over the seat when you exit your vehicle and make sure it covers the organizer. If this seems like overkill, chances are you never had your vehicle broken in to. Of course this doesnt mean that someone wont break in just for the hell of it so try to get kids in the habit of keeping expensive items with them or at least completely out of plain sight.
The Bottom Line
This was a great investment for me and has helped keep a majority of the kids junk off the floor of the vehicle and the seat clear and free of their necessities. Now that they are a little older they dont use this one as much but they still toss some things in there form time to time. If you do any amount of driving around or take road trips or vacations, this is an indispensable item to have in your vehicle. There are several different styles available so if this one seems a bit too much or has way too many pockets, you can check out the other items that Case Logic carries; to check out what they have to offer, visit their official website at www.caselogic.com. Outside of organizers they carry a tremendous number of home storage solutions for almost every media.
As always, thanks for the read!
