Any game with a "Splatter Bonus" automatically gets five stars any day.
Carmageddon is a sadistic car racing game. There are three ways to win each race: 1) The traditional first across the finish line, 2) Destroying all of the competing cars, or 3) My personal favorite, running over all the screaming pedestrians!
While the PC version is pixel doubled (320x300), the Mac version allows for true 640x480 resolution. The game play is equally good in either resolution.
The controls, especially the camera angle, take a few minutes to master. (Prohibitively so for my wife who is not very computer game savvy.) After you learn the basics you can enjoy the blood curdling screams and the sight of tire smeared blood for hours. No joke- this is a game for adults- though my six year old niece got a kick out of it. (Remind me to stay off the road when she learns to drive in ten years.)
The game also includes many power-ups, bonuses and cars, all of which you can eventually drive.
Carmageddon is a great game for those of us sick and twisted enough to get fulfillment out of decimating cows and our fellow human beings with a automotive weapon without fearing prosecution. I recommend it for those times we all need to take out our aggressions.
