| randfan's Full Review: Calphalon Collectors Edition Stainless Steel Steak... |
I am a big fan of Calphalon cookware, as you can tell by some of my past reviews, so when the opportunity presented itself to purchased Calphalon's stainless steel steak knives at a sale price, I jumped at it.
I purchased three sets of four knives (they are sold in sets of four) for $11.99 each from Macy's.com. The price was unbeatable, and I figured with the Calphalon name, the knives would at least be decent. Evan at the regular price of $20.00 per set, the knives would be a good deal if they are quality knives.
Well, the knives are better than decent. They have a distinct serrated blade, more serrated than my current Hoffritz knives that cost much more. The Calphalon knives are nicely weighted and feel balanced in your hand. They are almost too light weight for my taste, but not so much so that the knife is compromised. Each blade is stamped with the word "Calphalon" and the logo in distinctive type.
The handles of the knives are stainless and are a sleek, contemporary design, but I think they would complement virtually any flatware style. They have a slight wave at the along the bottom side of the handle which makes a nice grip for adult hands and accommodates the natural shape of fingers. The handles are somewhat thin, but again, this is not really a detraction from the knife. The handles also have a long-wearing satin finish.
One of the best things about these knives is, because they have no wooden parts, they can safely be used in the dishwasher. For anyone who has cut their hand while hand washing a steak knife, you'll appreciate that. If you hand wash these Calphalon knives, it is recommended you ALWAYS wipe them dry immediately.
Calphalon's stainless steak knives come with a lifetime warranty, and you can register online or call a toll-free number to register your product.
Overall, these knives are super for the price I paid. I priced other knives, including Wusthof since I own many of their knives and love them, but I didn't want to spend $300 for steak knives. (We're not big steak eaters around here.)
The design and construction, combined with the price, makes them a wise purchase, and one I would recommend.
