| disartain's Full Review: California Cage Panama Play Top Bird Cage CP300 |
What started out as one bird, a little Jenday Conure, has now grown into 3 other additions to our bird family. We acquired Polly(Congo African Grey) about a month ago. We also added Knuckles(Amazon Parrot) and finally Chief(Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo) Which meant we had to buy 3 new big cages to accommodate them all. The one I am telling you about today is Polly's Castle.
The Panama Play Top Bird Cage measures 32" x 32" X 28".
Bar spacing is 3/4 inch. It is made of United States # 1 Grade Steel. They use a 3 step coating system.
1. They sand blast after welding to clean the surface, this also roughs up the steel so the powder coating adheres better.
2. The cage is then charged with electricity to get a even, thick coat of the powder finish.
3. The last thing they do is bake in an oven(that must be a big oven)to harden the coating for a long lasting finish.
How easy is the cage to clean?
As much as I love my birds their homes mean constant cleaning in order for Polly to have a safe environment to live in.(no I don't clean 8 hours a day)I usually clean the bottom of the cage daily. This is made easy because there is a pull out tray that I line with newspaper(cheaply available)all I have to do is throw that paper away and reline. Besides the pull out tray, there is a strong wire grate that pulls out to clean. This is the piece that the bird walks on if he is on the bottom. All the droppings go through this and land on the newspaper in the tray. This ensures that the parrot is not walking in his own excrement.
Along with the droppings are numerous seeds and treats that are thrown out of the food dishes because somehow they have offended Polly, so she slings them out. This is one of the easiest cages to clean that I have ever come across. I take the grate that slides right out and the pan underneath it both go into the shower. Then I spray the rest of the cage and perches with vinegar and water and just wipe down. If there is a spot that has hardened, I spray it again soaking it and by the time I have the grate finished it comes off easily. I do this once a week.
The cage has three ceramic crocks for feeding and water. These are slid through from the outside so you don't actually have to put your hands in the cage(good idea if you have a nippy bird, intent on drawing blood if you enter the sanctity of his castle)there is wire over the bowls so it is not easily pushed out.
There is a skirt around the bottom for the purpose of saving your floors from seeds and poop. I don't like these skirts they are made of the same thing the cage is made of. They come together in a v on 4 ends and I usually end up running into the thing and putting a cut or bruise right above my knee.
The cage comes with a ribbon wood perch, but is now filled with a large swing two more perches and numerous toys for Polly to play with. A Parrot needs more then one size perch, they need all shapes and sizes to be able to exercise their feet.
On top of the cage is a play area. It has two crocks for food and water and a large perch for the bird to play on. The bottom of the play area comes out for easy cleanup I line this with newspaper.
The door opens out from the cage and will stay open till you close and lock it. There is a stainless steel latch and a keyed lock. Most birds can become escape artists in no time. We have to lock Pollys cage because she has learned how to open the latch.
This cage is on wheels and makes it easy to move to another room if I need to. When I sweep the room I just pull out the cage from the wall and it is easy to push and pull.
Now if I could just convince Polly that this is not the Trump Towers and it really is okay to come out and play on top.
