| Dunkjam's Full Review: Bufferin Pain Reliever |
I suffer a lot with headaches, mostly related to stress or sinus problems. Since I am a Registered Nurse, I have read up on most of the over the counter medications and thought I would give Bufferin a try! One thing that you must do before taking this medication is to make sure you have a full stomach! When I took Bufferin pain reliever, I took two tablets with a full glass of water and a full stomach. Needless to say, the medication did not relieve my headache, but it also gave me a very upset stomach ache. I definitely did not want to repeat this dosage in four hours as the bottle recommends. My husband Randy also took Bufferin and he said that it did not provide him any relief from his sinus headache.
Bufferin is made by Bristol-Myers and is recommended to be stored at room temperature. It has a tamper-evident bottle, which means if the seal around the bottle cap and neck is broken, that you should not use it! They also recommend that you can use it for headaches, arthritis pain and inflammation, muscular aches and pain and fever of colds.
You can also use it for menstrual cramps and toothaches. Since Bufferin has aspirin in it, they do not recommend that you take it if you are on a prescription drug for anticoagulation (blood thinner), diabetes, gout or arthritis unless cleared by your physician.
Bufferin is recommended for adults and children over twelve years of age or older. The usual dose is two tablets with water every four hours while you have your symptomes. Do not take more than twelve tablets in twenty-four hours!
Bufferin ingredients in one tablet are:
Active: Aspirin 325mg buffered with Calcium Carbonate
and Magnesium Oxide
Inactive: Benzoic Acid, Citric Acid, Corn Starch, FD&C Blue
No.1,Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, Magnesium
Stearate,Mineral oil, Polysorbate20,Providone,
Propylene Glycol, Simethicone Emulsion,Sodium
Phosphate,Sorbitan Monolaurate, Titanium Dioxide,
Carnauba Wax, Zinc Stearate
If you have a child or teenager that has the chicken pox or flu like symptoms, do not use unless a doctor is consulted since it may contribute to Reye Syndrome. This is a very rare and serious illness that is associated with aspirin. I had a very close friend that gave her eleven year old son an Aspirin based medication and he died from Reye Syndrome several years ago. Some other people that should avoid Bufferin are women who are pregnant or nursing a baby and definitely do not take during the last trimester of your pregnancy to avoid bleeding complications during delivery!
If you have an allergy to aspirin, do not take Bufferin. This medication may also agitate stomach disorders if you have a history of heartburn, upset stomach, ulcers or bleeding problems. If you develop ringing in the ears or loss of hearing, notify your doctor before taking any more of it! As with any medication, always keep your medicine out of the reach of children.
I must say that although my husband and I neither one received any relief with Bufferin, it may work for someone else. It is a very economical product, but I do believe that there are better pain relievers on the market that do not have aspirin in them and can help to avoid stomach upsets.
