Pros: Good souvenir and for seeing the items while the museum is under renovation
Cons: Not as cool as seeing them in person
The Bottom Line: Interesting as souvenir and to see the major items in the collection while the museum is closed, but definitely not a replacement to actually going here.

This is an interesting souvenir book from the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. It has colorful photos along with information about some of the major items the museum has. It is especially fun to look and read about these items with the museum being currently closed for renovations.
The book is organized into four main chapters. The first is called Creativity and Innovation, which includes things like the Edison Light Bulb and the robots from Star Wars.
The second chapter is called American Biography and tells about some key figures in American history and the artifact(s) the museum has related to them. This includes figures such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Albert Einstein, and Julia Child. This is the longest and most interesting chapter because it contains a variety of types of figures included athletes, musicians, and political figures.
The third chapter is called National Challenges. This chapter tells about some of the main challenges that country has faced such as the Civil War, which includes Lincolns hat. It also tells and shows artifacts related to Western Expansion, Womens Suffrage, World War II, Civil Rights, and the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
The fourth and final chapter is called American Identity and shows some popular icon type artifacts related to American Identity. This includes Kermit the Frog, American Music, and American Television.
Overall this is an interesting book with little snippets about American history along side the images of the related artifacts. It is a great memento for if you have visited the museum, as well as a good way to see the main artifacts while they are mostly not on display right now.
