| synergi's Full Review: Body Flex Exercise Program |
After reading the one review that so downed the Body Flex System, I decided to write up a review on it myself.
From the Body Flex Website..
**Body Flex breathing is a specific kind of deep breathing exercise combined with isotonic (equal tension) and isometric (equal measurements) stretching positions. Its so easy to learn the secret to Body Flex breathing, virtually anyone can do it.
Normally, we breath very shallow breaths. We've learned to live below the minimum for so long that we don't even know what it's like to feel energized and feel good. You're gonna notice some big results right away when you practice the BodyFlex deep breathing techniques.**
I find the above statement actually true. I've caught myself paying attention to myself breath while sitting on the sofa and I barely take a breath.
I admit I was also a skeptic. In fact I bought this system nearly two years ago, watched the intro tape where Greer Childers (Body Flex creator) demonstrates the breathing techniques. Needless to say, if you want a good laugh, watching this tape is the way to go. It looked silly, even if the concepts actually made sense.
There has been numerous claims that oxygen is what burns fat. And that we exercise to not only get our heart rate up, but also because this puts our bodies into a state of deep breathing.
Body Flex isn't new. Nor is the concept of breathing to loose weight. I am new to the Body Flex program(but its been around since 1993)..meaning I only heard about it 2 years or so go. But before this, I recalled in the early 90's another breathing program called Oxycise that gave the same results. Both programs are still around. One only needs to look at places like Amazon.com to see the reviews for Body Flex are 90% positive. There are over 160 reviews that say this program worked and maybe 20 of those 160 that said it didn't. I don't know about you, but I found those stats hard to ignore.
This leads us to me. A true skeptic! I decided I was going to once again try to tackle my weight issues and I dug through my dusty exercise room to see what programs I had that I could use now. I did this because, well i have a lot of dusty programs I never used so I figured buying a new one to add to the collection was pointless. I then ran across my Body Flex program.
Just so you know, I completely and utterly hate exercise. I decided if I was going to be successful at permanent weight-loss, I'd need something that didn't require a lot of time and was easy to do. Body Flex fit that bill. I read all the reviews I could find, and geeked myself to finally pop the tape in and give it a try.
Before I jump to that, I put myself on sort of a Body Flex challenge. For two weeks, I ate what I normally ate,(No Diet!) I took my weight, and measurements down and I was ready to start.
The set came with two tapes. The intro tape that has Greer explaining the benefits of deep breathing. How stressing the muscle group you are working with Isotonic stretches sends oxygen running to that part of the body and this is suppose to burn fat as well as tone.
She walks you through each excercise. Although I do have the gym bar I lost my tape for the actual work out but I had her tapes that doesn't use the gym bar. (I've since ordered that dvd for the gymbar) In this tape, you start at a standing position, then bend down slightly keeping your back fairly straight. From here she teaches you how to exhale, inhale, make a PAH sounds as your release the air, then you role your stomach up beneath your rib cage and hold. From there, you do whatever the isotonic stretch is your doing for 8 counts, then exhale.
There are also floor exercises that target your gluts, hips, thighs, stomach etc. Heck she even has a position that targets that double chin some of us have the misfortune of having. I had done the Oxycise program for two days (another program I had never used) before trying body flex. I wanted to see which program I liked better. And I can honestly say, I really really felt it with Body Flex. Your heart rate gets up there pretty quickly, and as soon as I started to break into a mild sweat, it was over.
Since I'm so lazy about exercise, I tell myself everyday. Its only 15 minutes. There's no jumping around like a bunny rabbit on crack. And if your really heavy and out of shape, I'd highly suggest trying it. For Many people, Body flex is the only form of exercise they can use. And something, is better then nothing.
What I noticed from using it. Right away I felt really energized with a new level of energy. It was exactly like my walking the treadmill for a mile minus the tired worn out feeling you have before that high level of energy kicks in. With Body Flex you go straight to the energy and by pass the tired feeling.
I also noticed right away a benefit I hadn't even expected. It actually helped my migraines. Yes I'm a chronic tension/migraine headache sufferer. When I say chronic I mean literally everyday headaches. The first day I was starting body flex I had that throbbing in my head so I knew i'd have a full blow headache in half an hour or so. I still had time, I wanted to finish the work out. By the time I was done with the workout, my headache was gone.(unheard of without medicines I promise!) In fact, in the last two weeks, I've gone from 2-3 pills a day down to 1. Its made a huge difference and for me, its worth doing just for what its doing for my headaches, even if I didn't loose a pound.
Over all, I put Body Flex on a two week test. At the end of two weeks, I lost 7 pounds with no dieting and almost 5 inches on various parts of my body..including my waist.
Sure it might look ridiculous, sound funny..and you may hide away from your better half while you're do it. But it seems to really work!
Its the easiest 15 minutes I've spent and totally worth it.
**** Just an update on my progress****
I've taken my BMI and body fat from two weeks ago to compare with the the calculations I took today.
I've lost another 3 pounds which makes about 10 pounds for the month doing nothing but Body Flex.
Two weeks ago BMI 37.7 Body Fat 45.4
Today calculations BMI 37.1 Body Fat 44.5
While im dropping weight slowly, my measurements haven't changed a great deal so far. I've lost about 7 inches for the entire month.
I'll leave this up to you guys if you consider it good or not. For 15 minutes of work just breathing I don't think its to bad. I'll probably add another program like Body for Life but I wanted Body Flex to get a fair review.
Good Luck everyone reaching your goals!
