| angelbugsf's Full Review: Black & Decker 19" Cordless Rechargeable Mulching ... |
Two-stroke gasoline engines are one of the dirtiest sources of air pollution, and in progressive Davis, CA, where I live, many people use rechargeable electric mowers. My own choice to purchase this mower was also influenced by the fact that I'm not crazy about transporting and storing highly flammable liquids, yet mowing around electric cords is a nuisance. So the main factor in my decision to buy this mower was the rechargeable electric battery, and the fact that Lawn Boy stopped making their competing model, leaving only the Black and Decker in the field.
For yards under 1/3 of an acre this mower is perfectly adequate. The mower is easy to charge and operate, and is fairly quiet as lawn mowers go. However, it's rather heavy, and if you're not very strong (say, you're a skinny middle-aged lady with only enough arm muscles for basic survival skills like transporting food to your mouth and putting on warm clothes in the winter), it's a bit of a chore to push it on even slight grades. To make the job easier, I empty the grass catcher bag when half-full and always mow when the grass is dry.
I've only used this mower for one season so I can't comment on its durability or reliability. If Lawn Boy had continued making their rechargeable electric I probably would have purchased it instead, as my previous experience with Black and Decker tools has left much to be desired, but I have to say, so far, the mower has performed perfectly.
