I'm quite enthralled with the relatively new innovation of pore strips. It's an effective way to clean your pores without pinching. I've tried a few brands, but my favorite remains Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips.
~ Product Description
What are deep cleansing pore strips? What!? You've never heard of these? Allow me to explain how these nifty little strips work.
Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips are little strips of fabric with a glue-like substance on one side. These are designed to be used on your nose, chin, and forehead, to pull out blackheads, whiteheads, dirt and impurities, and other pore-clogging material.
To use, very thoroughly wet your face in the area where you want to apply the strip. Dry your hands (so the strip doesn't stick to them), peel the strip off the plastic liner, and smooth onto your skin, pressing down to make sure you have good contact. Let it dry for about 10 minutes, or until the fabric is stiff. Then slowly and carefully peel it off starting at the edges. The pore-clogging gunk will be stuck into the dried glue and be pulled right out of your pores as you peel off the strip.
Take a look at the strip and you'll see all that icky junk that was in your pores! And, yes, it does look like a porcupine, with all the little almost hair-like threads of "stuff" that used to be in your pores now attached to the strip.
Here's what Biore says, from the packaging: "Biore Deep Cleansing nose and face strips are a weekly pore refinement that instantly removes clogged dirt and oil. With regular use, they also diminish the appearance of pores. Only Biore deep cleansing strips have the Pore Target System that seeks out dirt and pore-clogging material and pulls them out like a magnet."
~ Packaging
Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips come in a box of six nose and six face strips. Or you can buy them separately as just a box of nose strips, or face strips.
Each strip is individually wrapped in plastic. Just tear down the side to open the wrapper - which is easy to do. No struggling or ripping it open with your teeth. The strip is on a plastic liner to protect the glue surface.
The nose strips are contoured to fit your nose, and the face strips are basically just rectangle shaped. You can use the face strips on your chin or forehead.
~ My Experience
First of all, I have somewhat dry, starting to age skin. I don't have acne or sensitive skin. I have large pores around my nose and chin. Blackheads are not a problem, but I can usually see minute whiteheads in my pores around my nose and chin. Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips really take care of this problem!
I've discovered that you really need to get your face VERY wet before applying the strip. I just put a couple fingers under the faucet and get my face wet just in the area where I'll be applying the strip. If I'm doing my nose and chin, I'll wet my nose, apply the strip, then do the same on my chin. I haven't been using these on my forehead.
The nose strips do fit well on my nose, and allow for good contact with the skin. The face strip used on my chin doesn't fit as well. My chin is too rounded, and the strip will tend to pucker and not lie smooth. BUT, I must say that the Biore strips make better contact with the skin and don't pucker as much as other brand strip, such as Ponds. The Biore strips are thicker and more substantial, and the glue seems stickier.
After about 10 minutes or so, sometimes even sooner, the strips are stiff and dry and ready to be pulled off. This is not like waxing - you don't want to rip it off quickly. Just slowly pull it off. The nose strips sometimes make my eyes water as I'm pulling it off. The face strips don't bother me at all.
If it's really hurting to pull off, the directions say to wet the strip until it slides off easily. We are cautioned not to remove the strip forcefully as it may cause skin abrasions.
There is no smell or scent to these.
Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips effectively clean my pores, and better than any other pore strip I've tried. But I haven't really noticed my pores actually getting smaller. Right after I've used a strip I'd say the appearance of my pores is less noticeable, but I haven't seen any pore shrinkage.
After I pull off the strips, sometimes there's a little white residue left on my face. I just rinse it off. My skin feels smooth and clean, with no drying sensation. I might have a little redness from pulling off the strip, but that goes away quickly.
~ Ingredients and Other Notes
Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips are dermatologist tested, hypo-allergenic, and appropriate for all skin types.
Cautions are:
- Use the nose strip only on the nose
- Avoid using the face strip around the eyes
- Avoid using on acne blemishes, or swollen, sunburned, excessively dry skin, or skin prone to spider veins
- Consult a physician before suing on skin being treated with prescription acne medication.
- Do not use more often than once every three days on nose or same area of the face.
Ingredients - Note that the face strip and nose strips have different ingredients:
Nose Strip: Polyquaternium-37, Silica, Water, Glycerin, Dimethocone Copolyol, Titanium Dioxide, Methylparaben
Face Strip: Polyquaternium-37, silica, water, glycerin, Hamamelis Virginiana (witch hazel) Extract, Dimethicone Copolyol, Titanium Dioxide, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Butylene Glycol, Methylparaben
~ Final Thoughts
Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips pull impurities out of your pores like a magnet. Yes, sometimes it does hurt a little to pull off a nose strip, and it often makes my eyes water. But you can wet the strip a little bit if that happens and it comes off more easily.
I've tried other brands, and Biore is superior to others because of the thick, more substantial fabric of the strips. It seems to provide a better contact with the skin, thus pulling out more impurities. It seems to dry faster than other brands as well. In my experience, these nifty little pore strips clean my face and pores better than any other technique I've tried, and that includes expensive facials.
I've been using Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips for over a year, and I will not bother with any other brand of pore cleansing strips.
