Pros: battery powered, so convenient
Cons: Wouldn't trust my license with it.
The Bottom Line: Do not buy. At this point, Bel is just getting rid of old stock. I wouldn't feel right about reselling it.

| keithes1's Full Review: Beltronics BEL 946 Radar Detector |
I've had the unit for two weeks, and by the time I've gotten alerts from police driving past me, they were only 75 yds. away. It did go crazy at about an 1/8 mi when hit with instant on and once with laser.
This unit performs so badly, I felt it may be defective, but beware if you buy off e-bay as Bel will not honor the warranty on any e-bay sale (you could hear the paper rattle as the script was being read). When I asked what the relative performance to the Vector 940, they said the Express was old technology and performance was probably around 50% of the Vector.
If you intend on using this on a motorcycle as I planned, the adapter must stick up out of the pocket, so you better have a chest pocket and ride in an upright riding position for the detector to be positioned correctly. The earhone could be a little louder for those who wear earplugs. As for falses, not too bad, but get alot of K and Ka falses which is kind of unusual.
I could pay $75. to get it checked out and if it's defective, they'll fix it, and get a half way decent unit, or find that it really is that poor of a performer and have thrown more good money after bad.
If you must have a battery unit, I think you'd be better off with an Escort Solo 2 bought from someone who Escort will honor the warranty.
