Genuine Bayer Aspirin has been around forever! Probably not actually forever] but in researching the product, I couldn't find a date or origination. It is made with one very simple active ingredient 325mg of Aspirin per tablet. As with all modern technology everything progresses to new levels over time as Bayer aspirin has done by coating each tablet with a registered trademark product called Toleraid which makes the tablet easier to swallow.
First warning is that Aspirin is not tolerable to everyone. Reading from the back of a bottle from my medicine cabinet it advises not to take if you have asthma, diabetes, gout, or arthritis with out the advise and close supervision of your doctor. As always again it is advised not to be used in the last 3 months of pregnancy or by children and teenagers with chicken pox or flu like symptoms. Aspirin has been linked to a rare disease called Reye Syndrome. Makes you wonder how us almost baby boomers survived doesn't it. I practically lived on Johnsons chewable baby aspirin! Of course as a mom of the 90's now the new millennium, my children have never had an aspirin at the advise of our pediatrician.
Doctors sometimes will place heart patients on an Aspirin a day for heart attack prevention. I have not done any research on this and don't feel qualified to advise on the subject, however the Bayer company does claim that Bayer aspirin taken under the direction of a physician can stop you from dying if taken early during a heart attack. Personally I find this a little hard to grasp, but that is their claim. If I am in the middle of a heart attack I don't think I want to rely on a bayer aspirin to pull me through .
Among the list of pains bayer claims to relieve range from headache, to aches and pains associated with cold and fever, toothache, and menstrual pain, I find it works best for me for relief of menstrual cramps. Aspirin works as an anticoagulant [boy had to pull out my old nursing dictionary for that word] meaning thinning of the blood. By taking a small amount of Bayer aspirin at the onset of ones menstrual cycle, the thinning of the blood may cause the cramping to be less severe. Again let me stress be sure to check with your doctor or gynecologist before self medicating with aspirin.
The manufacture claims that Bayer aspirin comes with child protective lids, however I am holding a bottle of 100 genuine bayer aspirin in my hand purchased about 2 months ago with a simple screw type lid. So by all means keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
There are many types of plain aspirin on the shelves today and again let me emphasize aspirin is not for everyone! In the event you are one that can take aspirin without any ill side effect wouldn't you rather choose a well trusted brand like Bayer instead of a store brand or generic formula?
