| mrs-j's Full Review: Bare Escentuals Warmth |
A couple of weeks ago I received a four piece starter kit of Bare Escentuals mineral makeup from QVC. As a part of that starter kit I received a small jar of Bare Escentuals Warmth Cheek & Face Color. I was introduced to Bare Essentials by way of an infomercial. I don't know why it is that I just can't seem to turn those things off. I really wasn't interested at the time but after visiting my mother over the holidays and trying her Bare Escentuals mineral makeup I became much less of a skeptic and much more willing to try the products.
About Bare Escentuals Warmth Cheek & Face Color
Bare Escentuals, based in California, sells a number of high end face and skin care products. Their Bare Minerals line of products are all natural, fragrance free, and contain no talc, oil or preservatives. They market their makeup line as ideal for those with sensitive skin. It's touted as the makeup so healthy "you can sleep in it". All that good stuff.
Bare Escentuals Warmth Cheek & Face Color is basically the Bare Minerals version of the blush powder that we all know and love, or hate. It comes in a very tiny jar with the Bare Minerals I.D. logo on it. This stuff is expensive. A 0.175 oz. jar retails for $20 at places like QVC. I have heard that you can get them cheaper off of eBay but until I get more familiar with the product I prefer to go through a more public retailer.
The ingredients in Bare Escentuals Warmth are very simple. It's basically made from 100% pure, micronized natural minerals. There's nothing in the ingredients list that sets of any warning flags for me.
Ingredients: Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Iron Oxide
Bare Escentuals claimed on the packaging that I received that:
"Warmth brings a sun-kissed glow by adding oomph to the skin. Brush on Warmth where the sun would naturally fall on your cheeks, forehead, chin and nose."
Using Bare Minerals Warmth
I use this product after applying Bare Minerals Foundation in shade #1.2 (light). Bare Minerals foundation has an SPF of 15 so the Warmth product does not.
After applying the foundation I flip over the warmth jar, lid on, and then flip it back upright. I then remove the lid and, using the applicator brush I used to apply the foundation, I swirl over the lid and then tap off the excess. Then I apply it in a very light motion, brushing it gently over my nose, near my chin and over my cheekbones. I sometimes go back for a second tap of the brush over the remaining dust to get a little more color on my face, but not always. Finally, I finish up with a dusting of Bare Minerals Mineral Veil and I'm ready to go.
How Well It Works
Tihs product is wonderfully light and works very, very well. Because it's just a hint of color, I don't worry about coverage with Bare Minerals Warmth very much. It's very sheer and when I'm wearing it I feel and look as if I'm not wearing any makeup at all.
That's not to say that Warmth doesn't make my face look different, because it does. It just makes my face look different in a more natural way, as if I've been in the sun. None of that harsh 80's Kiss of the Vampire Lady super-dark lines of blush under the cheekbones action, if you know what I mean.
The color of this product is gorgeous and it's surprising to me that it works with all the different skin shades Bare Minerals sells, but apparently it does. It's a very burnished, dark colored powder and if you want it darker, you just apply more. It stays on for hours and doesn't smudge off.
The claims that Bare Escentuals makes, that this product will bring a "sun-kissed glow by adding oomph to the skin" really are true if you apply the makeup with a very light, very careful hand.
Where to buy Bare Escentuals Warmth Cheek & Face Color
Where to buy Bare Escentuals products? That's a good question. I have seen them for sale on eBay, and in Ulta cosmetics stores. QVC also sells the product. If you click on the "Infomercial" link at the Bare Escentuals website (www.bareescentuals.com) you can order products there as well, though their prices aren't very good and they seem to have a "club" setup where they send you makeup every few months, which I always hate.
Summary
I really do like this product and after using it, my old powder foundations just seem so dusty and heavy. When I use this makeup my skin looks like I've been out in the sun just long enough to get a bit of a glow, and the best part about it is that because it looks like I'm wearing no makeup at all, it's a very natural look. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a light, sheer replacement for the everyday blush that we've all come to know (and in my case, really not like very much).
