| shoplmart's Full Review: Banana Boat Sunless Deep Dark Tanning Kit |
So many people with pale or light skin will do almost anything to get a deep-natural looking tan, especially during the summer months when many times their bodies are not fully covered. It has become part of our American culture that a beautiful tan is synonymous with health and beauty, despite what scientists have to say. Us naturally pale individuals have 3 choices, we can sunbathe; hoping not to get skin cancer, go to the tanning beds which can lead to the same scenario, or use a sunless lotion.
Banana Boats' Claims: This formula allows for you to control the shade of your tan. This creme will allow you to get a deepest, darkest tan that can be achieved with your skin tone.
Banana Boat Sunless Tanning Creme Deep Dark Blend comes in a small 3.75 FL. OZ. squeeze tube. The product is dispensed by squeezing the tube until the desired amount is acquired from the small capped out-let. The product comes out in the form of a relatively light creamy lotion. The smell of the lotion is a little unsettling, but trust me it could be much worse. This product does contain alcohol and fragrance so people with sensitive skin, Eczema, or other skin related problems probably should not use this product.
Ease of use: Like all self tanning lotions this one takes impeccable skill as well. Banana Boat Sunless Deep Dark Blend is not exactly hard to use, but it definitely is not easy either. Before you use this product you must wash your skin, and then apply an 'almost impossible' even amount over your skin. The product does go over skin smoothly, however applying an even amount is about as predictable as waxing a white car with white wax. It is advised that you apply sparingly around your hairline, elbows, knees and ankles. After you are done using this product, you must wash your hands throughly.
Ingredients: Water, Dihydroxyacetone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, C12-13 Alkyl Benzoate, Propylene Glycol, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Aloe Barbadensis Gel, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparabeb, Ethyparaben, Propylparaben, Butyparaben, Critric Acid, Tocopherol, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Steric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Frangrance, Dimethicone, Stearth 20, Stearth 2.
Note: This product does not contain a sunscreen.
My Experience: I had used this product at the beginning of spring for the first time, and will say I am less than pleased with this sunless tanning creme. I usually use Coppertone's Endless Summer (see my review) tanning products, but thought I'd try a cheaper brand, especially since this product was on sale for $2.99. I have used many other Banana Boat products that have worked excellent, so why not try this? The first day I tried Banana Boat Deep Dark Blend I really had not noticed much of a change in my skin tone, so like the bottle indicates, I used more. This product not only turned my skin a complete 'color crayon orange', it left streaks everywhere. I tried to smooth out the missed spots, but the more I did, the more orange I became. Don't get me wrong, orange can be a great color, but I certainly don't want my skin to be this color. As if being orange was not bad enough, despite my (what I thought to be) impeccable self tanning skills, I managed to get this product in my hair, in my nails, and the product stains would not wash off the inside of my fingers.
How long does Banana Boats' version of a tan last? About 5 days.. Yikes!
How long does a bottle last? My bottle will last me forever, or until I toss it; I refuse to use the rest of it. With normal 2x per week use I'm going to 'guess' about 3 months.
Price & Availability: Banana Boat Sunless Tanning Creme Deep Dark Blend will cost, if not on sale, between $6.99-$8.99. This product can be purchased at almost any drug, grocery, or large discount department store.
Conclusion: A great product for Halloween use maybe, but for a natural looking tan, I would pass at all costs.
