robndea's Full Review: Banana Boat Sunblock Lotion
Dip your babies, dab your honey, drench yourself - especially if you are as fair skinned as in our family - three redheads and one blonde and not a one of us can tolerate sun.
Our 15 year old blonde went sailing in Florida this summer (this is the same blonde who nearly burned himself up in a gasoline explosion earlier in the summer), and "wear your sunscreen was one of the main Parent imposed Rules! (...you know, no picking up girls, no carousing on the beach, no swimming with sharks - ok, so we had to give him at least ONE he would follow!) And, even though he didn't follow the rules to the letter, I was impressed by his lack of sun burn. According to the adult chaperones, he was good about applying in the late morning, then would apply after swimming in the ocean (usually about four hours later) and that application would last the rest of the day (another 6 hours, at least). So it wasn't perfect - it did need to be reapplied after swimming in salt water, but jeez...he would have needed to be coated in paraffin wax to retain skin protection in that hot and humid environment!
He came back with sand in his suitcase, but his skin - most especially the newly healed skin on his face - was unburned. Best stuff since sliced bread...besides, the bread got all hard and crusty in the sun and didn't protect him at all. (smile)
Only one tiny warning...somehow the boy managed to empty the entire container of lotion in the side pocket of the duffle bag on the way back across the country....we still haven't figured out if the seam split, or if the bag was tossed around by that airport gorilla. I found that lotion this good at adhering to the skin does a bang up job adhering to Gortex, as well. At least the bag smells good...and I doubt it will ever fade, either. :)
