Pros: easy to fold, wheels, stable, one-hand tray, washable pad
Cons: tray can be kicked off, vinyl underpad is thin
The Bottom Line: All the features of expensive high chairs, more stable, safer and easier to clean than others. I definitely recommend this highchair. Excellent for infants to older toddlers.
krispysis's Full Review: Baby Trend Breckenridge Highchair 8878
We purchased this chair about 6 months ago to replace our Graco double tray high chair. I have owned several high chairs, including the perego Prima Pappa, the Graco, and now the Baby Trend chair. Having owned highchairs in both low and high price ranges, I have to say this chair provides all the features of the "cadillac" high chairs without the price tag!
It is easier to clean than any model I have owned. Both the height (multiple position) and the recline can be adjusted easily and without removing baby from the high chair. I love the one hand tray release, the cupholder on the tray, and the sealed surface! This high chair has wheels, folds easily and has a moderate sized footprint (open size from front to back) compared to other chairs.
We needed a chair that could be moved and folded since our kitchen is quite full already! I thought that I would put it away between meals, but it looks so nice I usually leave it out and just push it out of the way! There are two covers on the chair, the outer seat cover is a plush, machine washable AND reversible check print. I have washed it several times and it shows little wear and tear. The underneath seat pad is a thin vinyl that serves its purpose when the cloth cover is in the wash, but I was disappointed in how quickly the vinyl tore at the belt openings. The Trend chair has a 5 point harness that is easily adjusted and can be converted to 3pt if desired. The straps are easy to clean, and easy to remove and machine wash also.
I love how easy this chair is to clean compared to both the Perego and Graco chairs. My pet peeve is food getting trapped in seat or tray cracks. I wanted a highchair that could be cleaned without having to hose it down! The only place I find food gets trapped is at the base of the footrest, and that is only a minor issue since the rest of it cleans so easily!
The seat is wide and deep, so it works equally well for my toddler and my infant, and it has a center support passive restraint so baby safe when the tray is not attached. The chair height is adjustable to multiple positions so you can have baby at your height if you are sitting down, or if baby is playing, and it will fit under a standard table, although the armrests keep it from scooting very far under the table.
This is by far the most stable high chair I have owned. The Prima Pappa and Graco both had a larger footprint, but both have been tipped by my toddler climbing up to get in the highchair "all by herself". She has never once tipped the Trend highchair despite her best efforts!
My only complaint is that older babies can figure out how to hook their foot under the one-hand tray release and kick the tray off. It has only happened a couple of times, and with the 5pt harness and passive restraint protecting the baby, it is more of an inconvenience (and a delight to the baby!)than anything.
Overall, I love this chair and would purchase it again if I ever needed another high chair!
